    2. Howdy - just tying up loose ends. I believe, excepting today's posting, I have fulfilled all the requests for Bergen county extracted data. If anyone has sent in a request to my offlist site [email protected] and not received a reply, kindly re-post your request(s). Thanx in advance. David - [email protected]

    1. [NJ] CAMDEN county History
    2. Howdy folks! It seems, once again, we have exhausted submissions of data relating to Burlington county, so let's move on. CAMDEN county is up next. It is my understanding this county was formed in 1844, but I know little else about it other than having an ancestor working in he city Camden in the mid to late 1800s, and myself working there in the 1970's. Maybe someone out there has more personal knowledge of its history, or maybe some of you might have ancestors who lived there whom you are seeking more data on. In any event, let's all learn about CAMDEN county - its history, cities, formation, etc. David - [email protected]

    1. [NJ] Bergen Co Wills 1810-1813
    2. The following are extracted references of wills and inventories found in NJ Archives Volume 41, Calendar of Wills subset #12, for Bergen Co. As usual, if anyone wants an entry copied, send your request(s) to: [email protected] There is one more volume to go for this subset series, and then I will be putting out the promised list of entries for folks who either lived elsewhere before coming to NJ, or whose wills, etc. show they filed their entries in a location other than NJ, but may have been formerly of NJ. Those submissions to the list membership will also be piecemeal, according to limits imposed by Rootsweb. David - [email protected]

    3. I have forgotten who wanted information of Grace Giberson but her birth year is 1887 and she died in 1977. She was married to Alfred Raws first, then married Arthur Raws a brother. She was a very nice lady the one time I met her. Other than that I really dont have much except for what I was given. If you want that, then I can send it......but the next few days will be very busy for me as we have a wedding on Saturday!!

NJ Listers- I just received this from another list: To all my Holland Society fellow members The priceless collection of Bergen Dutch artifacts owned by the Bergen County Historical Society was left to the ravages of flood waters..... This is the first time in Bergen County Historical Society history (105 years) any item was lost due to flooding. Major damage was sustained to much of the collection (including our 17th century Dutch Kas, and most of our documents in our safe). Please see our web page for photos of the devastation (bergencountyhistory.org). 1. [NJ] Help finding info on Thomas J LAWLER, Essex Co.
    2. Jennifer Higgins-Wenzel
    3. I'm looking for help in finding out what happened to Thomas J LAWLER. He was b. 2/1885 in Olean, Cattaraugus Co., NY to Wm & Elizabeth(Welsh)LAWLER. I last see him in the 1930 cencus in East Orange, Essex Co., NJ w/ sons John(b. abt 1910) & Thomas(b. abt 1913). He is not listed as a surviving sibling in the 6/1960 obit of his younger brother Michael and all other siblings that I have been able to locate either died after 1960 or before 1920. I know that his family was Catholic. I do not know what he came to NJ for. I have never done research in this area and would appreciate any suggestions on where to look for him, as he is not buried back in his birth town. Thanks for your time and help, Jennifer Wenzel, Panama City, FL _________________________________________________________________ Don’t quit your job – Take Classes Online and Earn your Degree in 1 year. 1. [NJ] The 'Wills' Books - A Commentary
    2. New Jersey List Members; As many of you are aware, I find most helpful for members of this list, and others as well, the material found in the 13 volumes dealing with wills, inventories, guardianships, etc., which are part of the NJ Archives series. In the course of extracting those entries referring to BERGEN county, and much to my own regret and of those overlooked in previous scanning, are many entries where the testator was not of New Jersey, but of another state or country, or they were 'formerly of' another place. And so I will be going back over the volumes to find these entries, which I will then put out to the list at another time. There are, within the 13 volumes, some 40,000 entries, and each must be looked at (a bunch closer than I've done to date) for this variation of location. Some, it turned out, are even of BERGEN county, or were of that county, but are listed elsewhere, such as New York or Jamaica, and even France, etc. My choice of BERGEN county extractions was based on the fact that there are so few listed, whereas entries for other counties are too numerous. From time to time, however, I will be transcribing or referencing some which I find to be interesting reading, or may be more helpful to a broader selection of members, and will be beginning with BURLINGTON county, the current subject in discussion. Here is one which falls into that category: NJ Archives, Volume XXXIX, Calendar of Wills, Vol. 10, 1801-1805, page 383: 1803, Jan. 18. *ST. MEMIN, Benique Charles Fevret, of Burlington City and Co. Int. Adm'x - Victoire ST. MEMIN. Fellowbondsmen - John A. BARBAROUX and James M. BENOIST; all of said Co. Liber 40, page 193. 1803, Jan. 11. Inventory, $254.00; made by John A. BARBAROUX and James M. BENOIST. (Inventory states, 'that Benigne C. F. ST. MEMIN died at Cape Francis in St. Domingo, and that Victoire ST. MEMIN was his widow.') [* He was father of Charles Balthazar Julian Fevret de ST. MEMIN - artist and engraver - born Mar. 12, 1770 in Dyon, France and died thre June 23, 1852. The artist worked in the City of Burlington from 1798 to 1804. The widow of Benigne C. F. ST. MEMIN, and mother of the artist was Victoire marie de MOTMAN, a Creole from Santo Domingo. She established a girls school in Burlington and later one in Philadelphia. See Dict. of American Biography (Stewart) Vol. 26, p. 305. Compiler's Note.] As anyone can plainly see, entries of this type are part of the history of Burlington county, and elsewhere, and they contribute most admirably to our own US history, and that of France. A Commentary David Tourison Sheridan, Wyoming

    2. The following bits of data were extracted from NJ Archives, Vol 38 (#9 in wills series of 13), Calendar of Wills, covering years 1795-1800. As previously stated, anyone wishing copies of the data are asked to contact me offlist at: [email protected] and please include the entire line as it contains indicators to where I can find the material. A note about the entries dealing with 'Ward' - these proved to be most helpful if one is trying to trace a family, as they include the name of the father, and sometimes (tho rarely) the parents. Enjoy! If you're interested, please e-mail me offlist. The 1778 Revenue Law was an "Act to Raise the sum of £100,000 by taxation" and the 1779 Revenue Law was an "Act to Raise the sum of £3,375,000 by taxation". Each year or so thereafter, the State enacted this legislation to assess and collect taxes to run the government. 1. [NJ] NJ Tax Records
    2. Hello, Does anyone know the answers to the following questions on the Tax Ratables' of NJ during the late 1700s? I Have recently used Ancestry for the tax record index. I accessed them by looking for a particular ancestor that I was interested in who was found in the New Jersey Census, 1772 - 1890. I then ordered the appropriate film from the Mormon Family History Library (at their nearest library). The 1779 film revealed tax records for the periods that included, "A tax for those Exempted from Military duty " included names, acres improved, acres not improved, value of acres, money at interest, total of levy, horses, cattle, hogs, single men, slaves, merchants/shopkeepers, riding chairs and house holders. My Problem: Does anyone know what the criteria was (for the different years covered, presumed to not be the same for every year) to be on the tax lists or possibly where to find the information. Best Wishes, Pat ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
