    3. Great Job!!! We lived in Cheesequake and found many artifacts on the farm. My wife's family home was built in Revolutionary days and the property was deeded from King James III. When we read some of the stories, I decided to print out the entire book when your work is done. 3. Sandy, Have you tried a search at the NJ State Archives for the death record for Thomas. That would probably give you the place of interment. Carol ----- Original Message ----- From: Sandy To: [email protected] Sent: Monday, April 30, 2007 12:43 PM Subject: [NJ] Burlington County-SHANNON @ 1850-1900 I have been trying to locate the family of Thomas Shannon b. @ 1820 and his wife Catherine b. @ 1824. They immigrated to Worcester,MA between 1848 and 1852 with son James who was born in Ireland in 1847. Their first daughter Ann was born in Worcester,MA in 1853. They then moved south to NJ. I found them in the 1860 Census for Mt. Holly,Burlington Co. Thomas is listed as a cordwainer which is a shoemaker. John E. was born to them in 1856, Thomas F. was born in 1859 and Mary E. was born in 1864. After the 1870 census Thomas, the father, is no longer listed on any census. After about 1880 the family began moving between Camden,NJ and Philadelphia where I have found them in various directories and censuses. Because Thomas,Sr. seems to have died between 1870 and 1880 I assume he is buried somewhere in the Mt. Holly area but I have not found him or any other family member. I would like to find burial places for the family, living quarters and possibly a work place for Thomas Sr. But then again.....anything new is wonderful news. 2. I found the following in the 1876/77 Burlington County Directory: Mount Holly SNANNON James F. segars 62 Washington SHANNON Thos.,m shoemaker h 62 Washington I found the obit for the John E who died in 1917--these extra details might tell you if he is yours--wife was Elizabeth J. Faculty of Northeast HS was invited to the funeral. THe Burlington County papers listed this John as being buried in Bordentwn, the Philadelphia Inquirer says St Mary's Mt Holly. A google search should tell you where St Mary's is located--not having many Catholic ancestors I can't remember. I'd be happy to see if the library has any of their records. 2. Linda; How fortunate you are to have had such a wonderful experience. A great stor y to hand down to your grandchildren. Ann In a message dated 4/30/2007 1:20:41 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: The great battleship, USS New Jersey a/k/a BB62, is now docked at Camden. My eldest son served on it and crossed the equator on it=during westpac tour. When i saw it, it was coming into Long Beach Calif, harbor- a sight to behold this bohemeth mountain of a ship coming out of the fog- it was like a skyscraper moving thru the water. We toured what we were allowed(some parts women not allowed in then, as it was on active duty) and were amazed. It was docked next to the battleship Missouri, which shortly after we left, Cher, the singer, used as a prop for her "if i could turn back time" show. My son greatly enjoyed the show! Strange part is that this ship took part in the invasions and battles that my dad( a seabee with aka 74) also did, in the South Pacific- As my son is named after him, it gave me goosebumps when I read of the battles and so on on a plaque they have in copper on door- and then to have my son go to some of the same ports was stranger yet. Happily he was out of the service prior to its serving in Desert Storm. Sad day when they retired these great beauties from our services.Great day when NJ the state acquired it for our history! Camden is a town to be very wary and careful of. Follow signs and take mass transportation to the sites for best safety- sad to see a town go down so much. linda ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message Ann in Farmingdale, NJ ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    2. Could this be Thomas F. Shannon born 1859 and brother John E? There are some indexes for newspapers for Burlington County on the Burlington County Library site. I did not find the father. If this is your John E. it does say he was buried in Bordentown. 3. Hello all.............just so those who wish to know concerning the following........some of these towns do overlap and some towns share some zip codes. Part of Gloucester Township uses a Somerdale zip code, some of it uses a Magnolia zip code. Pine Hill, Clementon and Laurel Springs are all separate entities with governing bodies outside of Gloucester Township. Parts of Delaware Township are now Pennsauken. Merchantville uses a Pennsauken zip code and has a separate governing body from Pennsauken but uses Pennsauken High for secondary education......... Many of the early settlers are buried in the cemetery in West Collingswood. Yup--I suspect the author listed it this way because none of the mills were actually in Collingswood although judging from the map (which is an 1846 map) two of the mills, Albertson's and Breach's, appear to be on opposite sides of the South Branch of Newton Creek. It is hard to judge from the roads in existence at that time and shown on the map just which township (current) those mills were in--they appear to be just west of the road that today would be Clements Bridge Road and south of the White Horse Pike (which existed at that time). 1. Re: [NJ] CAMDEN county History
    2. The great battleship, USS New Jersey a/k/a BB62, is now docked at Camden.

    1. [NJ] Camden County -- Old Mills
    2. I have a booklet published in 1962 by the Camden County Historical Society called Old Mills of Camden County by Charles S. Boyer. I don't believe this booklet is available any longer. The booklet is also, no doubt, still under copyright so I can't quote it all here--but I thought I'd list the mills discussed in the booklet: Delaware Township (now Cherry Hill and surrounding territory) Burroughs' Gristmill French's Gristmill Howells' Cornmill, Champion's Gristmill, Shivers' Gristmill Leconey's Gristmill Roberts' Sawmill Matlack's Sawmill Ellis' Sawmill, Burroughs' Mill, Stevensons' Sawmill Horner's Sawmill Todd's Sawmill Sparks' Grismill, Hopkins' Gristmill, Matlack's Gristmill Swett's Gristmill, Peterson's Gristmill, Kay's Gristmill Newton Township (Now Haddonfield Borough, Haddon Township, Audubon Borough) Kendall's Corn Mill, Kay's Gristmill, Evans' Mill Githens' Plaster Mill, Haddon Mill Stoy's Sawmill Webster's Gristmill Albertson's Gristmill Breach's Gristmill, Harvey's Gristmill Hopkins' Gristmill Glover's Fulling Mill Union Township (Now Barrington Borough, Haddon Township) England's Mill Eldridge's Fulling Mill, Shivers' Fulling Mill Gloucester Township (now Laurel Springs Borough, Pine Hill Borough, Clementon Borough in addition to Gloucester Township) Troth's Fulling Mill Hillman's Saw and Gristmills, Tomlinson's Saw and Gristmills Brown's Sawmill Isaac Tomlinson's Gristmill Gibbs' Mills, Norcross' Sawmill, Marshall's Sawmill Thorne's Sawmill Flood Gates Sawmill Ward's Fulling and Gristmills, Blackood's Fulling and Gristmills, Kay's Mills Spring Mills or Tetamekon Mills The Cheesman Grist and Sawmills Ware's Sawmill Waterford Township (includes the current Voorhees Township) Matlack's Sawmill, Hillard's Sawmill Borton's Mill, Milford Gristmill Stokes' Sawmill Hopkins' Gristmill, White Horse Gristmill, Kirkbride's Gristmill General Jackson Mill, Richards' Sawmill Marple's Sawmill Iron Mill Burnt Mill Gloucester Township (current Winslow Township) Inskeep's Sawmill Bates' Sawmill Wiltsey's Sawmill, Albertson's Sawmill The mills with multiple names shown on the same lines above are the same mills which had different names and possibly different purposes but in the same location. The booklet includes a bit about the history of each mill and also includes a map showing the location of each mill. 3. I have been trying to locate the family of Thomas Shannon b. S.Hoffman
