Amen Pam - we had similar success with our DNA project - just need to fill in the gaps, but at least we have a direction to work toward. The DNA testing, when you join a group, is relatively inexpensive. As you said - if you get the cousins together and chip in you will all benefit from the results. Joanne in AZ (I seek dead people). Carol - we have Humphrey DAVENPORT in our tree. His wife was Ann - their daughter Huldah (1816-1870) married John B. KOCHER (1813-1899). The KOCHER line was very strong in PA. One of their daughters Abigail KOCHER married our Henry CASE. Is this the same line? Joanne in AZ (I seek dead people). Hi! I hit a brick wall & couldn't get passed my 2xgreat-grandfather,Thomas Drake, who was born in 1810 MD. Thanks to the results of the Drake DNA Project I was able to break through that brick wall. My cousin agreed to participate. The results say we are related to Captain Francis Drake who came to NH. then NJ. from England in the 1600's. I also got back directly 2 more generations. Now we are working on filling in the blanks between my 4xgreat-grandfather,William Drake,Sr. & Captain Francis Drake. I was extreemly pleased with the results as were my cousins. One thing, it is cheaper if you join a group than do the test individually. Since only male Drake's could participate I collected money from my female Drake cousins so it wouldn't break any of us. I eventually want to upgrade my cousin's results to a 67 marker test(which is the highest test at this time). You have to be prepared to receive any results. You also might find out information you weren't expecting. I was glad we didn't have any surprises in our pedigree! LOL! I think people should try anything legal that would help you find a way to break through a brick wall & that includes DNA testing. It gives you other places to look now. Sincerely, Pam Drake in IN.

Hello to all listers, www.familytreedna.com This is a company located in Houston, Texas. I am not affiliated with this company. I have been following 2 dna surname projects. Both of those projects are very interesting to me. One involves my great grandmother, another my uncle. Go to this website, then check on what projects are now going on for your various surnames, be sure to check spelling variations. For example, the surname project for BREWER includes a number of families who actually spell the name as BROWER, and the immigrant ancestor was spelled as BROUWER. For example: my maiden name is MARTIN, which is the 16th most common name in America. There are plenty of dna projects for the name Martin, however none appear to connect to my family, as of yet. If I had a brother, male cousin, male uncle named Martin I would gladly pay for the test, but I do not. I would make sense to check these various surname projects from time to time to see if anyone descended from your same ancestor is participating. Response to: [email protected] DNA testing is just another way to separate people from their money. It is similar to getting a family coat of arms. Both Hogwash. That may be your opinion and you are certainly entitled to it, but I've decided to come into the 21st century and try ALL means of knocking down my brick wall, not just getting knots on my head from beating against it! And SOME coats of arms for families are a way-tho not always definitive-to find an elusive ancestor. Who's to say which ones are real and which ones aren't-besides the Heraldry records stored across the pond? Peggie No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. Carol-Your comment: You are certainly entitled to your opinion but DNA testing helped me a lot. I have idea of which line of DAVENPORTs to research. By finding that I am a descendant of Humphrey DAVENPORT I was able to concentrate on that line eliminating many, many false trails that I had been following. I still have my brick wall but it's not nearly as thick!!! Mine: Amen to that. I too have a brick wall that no documents have been found ANYWHERE as yet. Even my brother-[who thinks ALL genealogy is a waste of time, live for today attitude] -was willing to help me on my quest. As he says-it can't hurt anything to try! AND it was my cash that paid for it:<))))) Peggie No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. You are certainly entitled to your opinion but DNA testing helped me a lot. I have been tracing the DAVENPORT line for nearly 40 years and until I had the testing done I had no idea of which line of DAVENPORTs to research. By finding that I am a descendant of Humphrey DAVENPORT I was able to concentrate on that line eliminating many, many false trails that I had been following. I still have my brick wall but it's not nearly as thick!!! IYou can have an mtDNA test run for the female line-it is much more difficult to trace and MUCH more costly-like $400 as opposed to about $150 for the male line. These are ballpark prices. Joan - it is possible to test the female side. I joined one for my Waller side - just a general testing that was free. If you go the Family DNA site, there are projects for females. Here is the link to the site I used to participate. The second one is for the Family Tree DNA project.
