Well, I may be the first victim of the year 2000 bug. Or maybe I am the first victim of efforts to avoid the bug. The other day I was unable to find my VISA card so I called to report it. The bank blocked the card. Later I found the card. The bank had closed. So the next morning I went into the bank and told them that I still had the card. I was told that the block would be removed so that I could use the card. I was also told that a new card was going to be ordered for me since mine expired in about two months. I was told that I would be able to use the old card until the new card arrived. However I would not be able to use the old card that day because it would take a little time to remove the block from the card. Ten days have passed. I have talked to the bank on a couple of occasions. They are in the process of changing to a new computer system. The reason for the change is they are preparing for the year 2000 problem. They say that the new system will completely eliminate. But until the change over is made they cannot remove the block from my VISA card. Therefore I guess I may be the first victim of the year 2000 bug. In the mean time America On-line has attempted to charge the next months billing to my card. Unfortunately the card is still blocked and I can do nothing about it. AOL has changed my account to inactive. I can not get on-line with AOL at present. Since this is the only VISA card I have I am unable to give AOL another card number. If anyone has tried to contact me at RWFields@aol.com I can not get my mail at that account. You can temporarily e-mail me at this address if you wish to. Randall W.
