Star-Herald (Nebraska) October 24, 1998. CARL C. 'JACK' NICKS GUERNSEY, Wyo. - Carl C. "Jack' Nicks, 89, of Guernsey, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, at the Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland, Wyo. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the United Presbyterian Church in Guernsey, with the Rev. Judith Cuthbertson officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Rest Cemetery at Guernsey. Serving as pallbearers will be Art Zube, Doug Frederick, Chuck Frederick, Rick Frederick, Duncan Irvine and Terry Beatty. Honorary pallbearers will be all of his many friends. Memorials to the Guernsey United Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 298, Guernsey, Wyo. 82214, would be appreciated by the family. Family and friends may call at the church on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. Platte Funeral Chapel of Wheatland is in charge of the arrangements. He was born Sept. 11, 1909, in Hartville, Wyo., the son of Greene Lee and Ollie M. (Bittick) Nicks. He went to work for a ranch on the Laramie plains at the age of 12. Over the next several years, he traveled and continued to work. When he was 17, he went to work for the railroad at Sunrise where he remained until his retirement. On June 8, 1938, he married Ethelyn L. Frederick, who was to be his partner for the next 60 years. They resided in Guernsey until moving to their ranch west of Guernsey in the early 1950's. Jack was also a successful rancher and co-owner of Oregon Trail Lanes in Guernsey. He was a member of the United Transportation Union, a charter member of the Guernsey Lion's Club and a member of the Wyoming Men's Bowling Association. His favorite pastimes included family, dancing, golf, bowling, fishing, hunting and card parties. He enjoyed life to the fullest. He was the author of a published children's book titled "Reddy the Fox." He is survived by two granddaughters Sheri Nicks and Julie Irvine both of Guernsey and two great-grandchildren Grayson Kissell of Guernsey and Ashley Layher of Gillette. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ethelyn Sept. 8, 1998, a son Clinton A. Nicks Dec. 19, 1995, a sister and four brothers.
