In a message dated 98-02-09 22:19:47 EST, you write: << I am trying to locate the Mary NIX listed in this census 1850 census Cherokee Co., Ga., >> Terri, I can't find the connection to your Mary Nix, but our Nix families are certainly in the same area at the same time. Here is what I have: Cisro Valentine Nix, b ca 1825 SC, m Cynthia R. Smith b ca 1822 SC, They moved from SC to GA about 1845. First 2 children b in SC., 6 ch b in GA. Their children were Irena, Francis Calloway, Perry, William F., John B., Martha, James Layfette, and Louisa. In Georgia they lived in the CrossRoads area for Cherokee County. I have them on the Census for 1850,60,70,80. My line is from their son, James Layfette, b Ga 1858, m in Ga. 1881 to Nancy Adoline Seabolt, b 1860 Ga. Their children were John F., Cynthia E., Virgil Velpole, MARY V. (b 1889 Ga), Walter Carl, Plumer A. and Edward. The children were born in Ga except Walter carl and Plumer who were born in Ala. Virgil was my grandfather and he said the family left Georgia and went to Alabama for awhile before moving on to Texas There were several Nix families in this Chrokee County area. On the 1850 census I found a John L. Nix b. 1801 SC who was living nearby to my Cisro Valentine Nix. I'm thinking this may be his father. And also living nearby was Charley Nix, age 74, b SC about 1790, who may have been the father of John. Charley Nix was also living next to Thomas Nix, b ca 1819 SC. Anyway, it seems that all these Nixes came from SC to Ga. and are probably related if we can ever find the connection. Let me know if you need more details regarding census records. That's about all i have for them. Chris R.
