Hello Nix Cousins.... Looking for information/confirmation about the following family... Edward NIX, born Abt. 1833 in Talbot County, GA; died Abt. 1874 in Rusk County, TX. He was the son of Elijah NIX and Martha (NIX). He married Mary SKINNER Abt. 1864 in Muscogee County, GA. Children of Edward NIX and Mary SKINNER are: i. Joseph Eligia NIX, born 10 April 1865 in Columbus, Muscogee County, GA; ii. Elizabeth NIX, born April 1867 in Alabama; iii. Butler Elbert NIX, born 11 December 1869 in Louisiana; iv. James Jackson NIX, born 06 October 1871 in Henderson, Rusk County, TX; I can not prove the parentage of Edward Nix. I believe, based on several clues, that he is, but am looking for some hard evidence. In 1870, Rusk County, TX, I found : Edward, Mary and family (all except James), along with a Thomas and a Ben, older than the oldest child (Joseph), but I believe too old to be children of Edward and Mary. Possibly younger brothers of Edward? or Mary? The head of the household on this census is a man name Darkey? (difficult to read). I am sure this is the correct family, due to the unusal (as far as I've been able to ascertain, anyway) name of Butler for my GGGrandfather, and the fact that I know Joe Nix was his brother, and they had a sister named Lizzy who married a Vineyard. Anything sound familiar out there? I can't find Edward in 1860, but he may still be with his parents? Any help appreciated. Kelly Nix Norman, OK sooner1@mci2000.com
