    1. [NIX-L] KNOX Changed to NIX?
    2. Alan D. Newton
    3. After months of searching, I was finally able to locate and obtain a copy of my great grandfather John Edward Nix's death certificate. I was hoping to get information from his death certificate concerning the names and places of birth of his parents. Unfortunately, I was somewhat disappointed. First, in the spaces for name and birth place of his mother, there were only checkmarks. Second, the handwriting in the space for name of father was pretty much scribbled and very difficult to read. My best guess is that it says "Danl Knox." Of course, "Danl" is an abbreviation for Daniel, but I am puzzled by the "Knox." I do not know if it is intended to be his middle name, as in Daniel Knox Nix, or his last name, as in Daniel Knox. If the latter, does anyone know if such a name change from Knox to Nix was common or, at least, possible? The person who filled in this information and signed in the "informant" block was O.L. Nix (written fairly clearly), so it is unlikely that the "Knox" is a misspelling. My great grandfather was John Edward Nix, who died in 1924 in Plaska, Hall County, Texas. He was born in 1858 in Alabama, according to my mother. However, his death certificate indicates that he was born in "La" (Louisiana, I assume). He was married to Eliza Jane Prickett (or Pritchett), who was born in Alabama, I think, in 1868. Does anyone have any information on the family of John Edward Nix and Eliza Jane Prickett, such as names and birthplaces of parents, brothers and sisters, etc? Thanks.
