The following people are some of my Nix ancestors. Please contact me if we can exchange information at dnix@fgi.net My family came to the USA from Germany or Prussia through New York. Some of the boys came over and worked to send money home for others to come. Eventually they settled in Wendelin, Illinois (Clay County). This is a rural area near Olney, Newton and not far from Effingham. Some of the family never came to the USA. We believe that Christian Frederick and Magdalena Widerspahn Nix had 15 children. Christian was born Feb. 6, 1818 and died Sept. 17, 1877. We believe Johanne Jacob was his father, Jacob was Johnanne's father and Christian was Jacob's father. The oldest Christian was born in 1733. I don't have much information on these men. Magdalena was the daughter of Feit and Magdalena Wolf. I don't believe they every came to the USA. Magdalena was born Nov. 17, 1818 and died Dec. 29, 1878. I believe that Christian F. and Magdalena came to the USA after all their children were born and after the USA Civil War. I don't know which boat, etc. It was around 1870 when they came to the USA. They are buried near Wendelin, IL. My great grandfather, John Baptist Nix, was the next to the youngest child. He was born Dec. 8, 1862 and died Aug. 4, 1897. John married Anna Lilly Kistner and had 6 children. Some of Christian and Magdalena's children were: Teckla b. 1840 married _________Brandt Henrich b. 1842 died 1861 in Germany Jacob b. Feb. 22, 1845 and died May 29, 1927 in Chicago. Jacob fought in the Franco Prussian War and his family has medals from it. Gertrude b. 1847 married Joseph Hauser and William Schmitt. She died in 1903 Joseph b. 1848 never came to USA Julia born Sept. 2, 1849 and died 1920 in Olney, IL Josephine born 1851 married ________Claudy Silas born May 21, 1853 and died June 9, 1932 Susan born Dec. 25, 1855 and died June 4, 1944 Henry born in 1857, stayed in Germany and was a priest Charles Henry born Sept. 24, 1859 and died July 4, 1937 in Olney, IL John Baptist born Dec. 8, 1862 and died Aug. 4, 1897 in Wendelin, IL. Philip born March 16, 1866 and died Sept. 23, 1922 I have other data to share. My great grandfather was John Baptist. My grandfather was Valentine Silas Nix. Valentine and Vera Jane Roberts had 7 boys and 2 girls. My father is Robert Dale Nix and I'm Darlene Kay Nix. dnix@fgi.net
