Dear Kathy: From the age and birthplace of Larkin and of his children, it appears that Larkin was born in SC ca. 1801 and married there before John, born ca. 1832, was born. Larkin was 31 when John was born, so he had probably been married about 10 years, i.e. married ca. 1821. Who? Unprovable as SC did not register marriages until after 1900. I think the family at the bottom of the list, Lulla Ann, 21 b. SC and Biddy aged 6 b. GA, were Larkin's daughter in law and grandchild. Mary aged 17 is a puzzle. 49 year old men usually remarried to much younger women, but to 17 year olds? He needed a mother for his children. She wasn't his oldest daughter listed next to him because she was acting as surrogate mother to his children - at least, if the birthplace info GA is correct, it seems highly unlikely that he would have had children in SC and gone to GA and gone back to SC. Question is, if Larkin aged 49 married Mary Ann Foster in 1850, was her age listed correctly as 17. What does the 1860 census say? James Leonard Nix was son of Larkin Nix and Elizabeth Prince. My line comes from Jasper L. Nix, brother of James Leonard Nix. Any others of this line? Kathy in SC

Hello folks! If you are not familiar with the databases found at http://www.ancestry.com, check them out regularly. When they add a new database, they are free for searching for 10 days. Recently, they have added NC Death Index databases, which are wonderful for anyone with NC ancestry. A new one just added is DEATH AND OBITUARY NOTICES FROM THE SOUTHERN CHRISTIAN ADVOCATE 1867-1878, by Brent Holcomb. I searched for NIX and came up with the following entries: DEATH AND OBITUARY NOTICES FROM THE SOUTHERN CHRISTIAN ADVOCATE 1867-1878 Issue of August 14, 1868 Wesley Nix, son of Miles and Rachael Nix, died in Union Dist., S.
