    3. Well, I may be the first victim of the year 2000 bug. Or maybe I am the first victim of efforts to avoid the bug. The other day I was unable to find my VISA card so I called to report it. The bank blocked the card. Later I found the card. The bank had closed. So the next morning I went into the bank and told them that I still had the card. I was told that the block would be removed so that I could use the card. I was also told that a new card was going to be ordered for me since mine expired in about two months. I was told that I would be able to use the old card until the new card arrived. However I would not be able to use the old card that day because it would take a little time to remove the block from the card. Ten days have passed. I have talked to the bank on a couple of occasions. They are in the process of changing to a new computer system. The reason for the change is they are preparing for the year 2000 problem. They say that the new system will completely eliminate. But until the change over is made they cannot remove the block from my VISA card. Therefore I guess I may be the first victim of the year 2000 bug. In the mean time America On-line has attempted to charge the next months billing to my card. Unfortunately the card is still blocked and I can do nothing about it. AOL has changed my account to inactive. I can not get on-line with AOL at present. Since this is the only VISA card I have I am unable to give AOL another card number. If anyone has tried to contact me at RWFields@aol.com I can not get my mail at that account. You can temporarily e-mail me at this address if you wish to. Randall W. 3. Hello to all Nix connections. Although I first joined his listing in early August, I've delayed introducing myself since I know so little about my grandfather, Daniel Alphonso Nix, and the information I did have was contradictory. The 1910 census, Whitt, Parker Co, TX showed my father's father being from Texas. The 1920 census showed his father being from Oklahoma. I've recently found my father's birth certificate which indicates that in March 1909, Daniel was 44 years old and Born in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. So, he was born about 1865. First married to lady named Celia May (?), possibly late 1880's. Have copy of picture of Daniel, Celia May and oldest son, Charlie Hatcher Nix, made in either 1890 or 1895, and indicated living in Rosebud, Falls County, Texas. Had two sons and one daughter by Celia. Daughter died at 18 months of age. Sons grew up and married. Second married to my grandmother, Winnefred Louisa Custis about 1904. They divorced sometime between 1910/1920. Their children: Homer Alphonso Nix, b.1905 d. 4/1985 Infant daughter stillborn no name George Isom Lovell Nix (my father) b. 3/16/1909 d. 3/24/1958 Uncle Homer (who had two daughters but no son) told his eldest grandson that the middle name "Alphonso" was always past down to the eldest son. (That apparently wasn't the case with Charlie Hatcher Nix of the first marriage unless I've been told wrong that he was eldest of two sons by Celia. Don't know Celia's second son's name. ) They were not listed on the 1900 census for Rosebud/Falls County. My grandmother may have met Daniel while she was teaching on an Indian Reservation in Oklahoma. If anything matches up I'd be thrilled to here from you. Georgia I. 2. To Kathy in SC: Do you have a William Nix b. about 1808 in SC? This William was married to Eda or Edy maiden name unknown, and was in Pontotoc Co. MS in 1850. Had children Elizabeth, Uriah Lafayette, Sarah, Leonard Calvin, Mary Jane, Burton Van Buren, Andrew J., and Missouri Ann. All of the children except the last one were born in GA. She was born in MS. That would put him in Georgia around 1833, and migrated to Mississippi somewhere in the period 1842-1848. Any of this sound familiar? Thanks, Nancy Cason Garland, Texas

    3. Hi Kathy, Maybe this will only add to your confusing mass of info. I have a John William NIX b. about 1797, married to Betty SPRATT about 1814. Their daughter, Amanda Jane NIX, (1826-1875) married William Thomas LEEPER (1823-1910/18?). I was struck by the middle name William, wondering whether he is a son or nephew. 1. [NIX-L] Administrative note
    2. Wanda Rabb
    3. In case you have noticed my absence, I thought I should explain what I am dealing with. There was a major fire in Winston-Salem which destroyed 3 historical buildings (former RJ Reynolds Tobacco factories). It was truly a sad day for our city Thursday when this occurred. My internet provider was located in the building adjacent, and there was major smoke and water damage to that building. I have been unable to log on since the fire started Thursday morning, so I have had no access to my e-mail and thus the mailing lists. They just came back up tonight, and I am busy wading through 138 e-mails - many of which are digest forms of mailing lists! To further complicate things, I had a major hard drive crash last night in which I lost the past month's data. If anyone has written to me lately, I apologize for the lack of response. I feel sure we have new members to our lists. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and to ask that you introduce yourselves and send a note to the list regarding the research you are doing on your family line. Hopefully things will get back to normal soon for me!
