Wanda, I'm on the RootsWeb mailing list for Nixes. My great uncle recently passed away. Here's the write-up for his obituary. Birmingham (AL) News, September 11, 1998 Nix, Joseph, J., age 95 of Talladega, died September 10, 1998. He was a former resident of Birmingham, member of Central Park Baptist Church, and was retired from U.S. Steel. Survivors include: wife, Edith A. Nix; sons, C. T. Nix of Largo, FL and William Nix of Birmingham; stepsons, James Armstrong of Talladega and Ralph Lowery of Trussville; step-daughters, Daisy Barker of Pell City and Johnnie Mae Staggs of Odenville; 4 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be Friday at 2:00 P.M. at Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 12:00 noon until service time. This was my grandfather's sole surviving sibling. (Joseph was always referred to as "Uncle Junior," so I assume that he was named after his father.) Their father was Joe (Joseph?) Peter Nix (1869-1953) and their mother was Rebecca Webb (1871-1911). Joe Peter Nix's mother's maiden name was Penelope Collins. I don't know his father's name. I know he died in Chilton County, AL and I believe he was born there. My Grandfather was John Harrison Nix (1899-1987). He was married to Sallie Armstrong (1896-1981). My father was Harold Lee Nix (1925-1988). Feel free to share any and all of this information with the mailing list. It might lead to my finding someone with more information about my Nix ancestors. Thanks, James Lenard (Jim) Nix
whoops! JMNB Nix was my 2nd great-grandfather not 3rd. My mistake, Robert Lyles
Jim - We might connect somewhere along the line. Some of my Talledega Nix's are laid to rest in Elmwood Cemetary also. My ggggrandfather was Joseph Madison Napolean Bonapart Nix. I have 5 Joe Nix's and one Josephine Nix that descended from JMNB Nix. JMNB was born 1814in GA and is buried in the Sylacauga (Old) Cemetary, Talledega, AL. He was a stone mason. His first wife was Mary Jane Fitzgerald. They had a son named Joseph John Nix b. 1839 who later moved to TX. JMNB's second wife was Mary E. Young - they had 14 children, including my ggrandfather Joesph Madison Nix. Please visit my NIX tree at and seee if there is something familiar there - http://members.aol.com/RLyles1/nix.html I hope we can make a connection, Robert Kahle Lyles

Hi list members, Above in the subject line are the two NIX family members I know of. Both are direct ancestors. Amanda Jane married William Thomas LEEPER, a lawyer. Their seven children were born between 1849 and 1865. She died in 1875 before she was 50, and William re-married. His second wife was Margaret Virginia YOKUM. I have Amanda Jane as born somewhere in TN. Her husband also had TN roots, in Williamson and Maury Counties, along the Leiper Creek, which was named for previous generations of the family. Amanda and William LEEPER spent most of their adult ilife in Wayne Co., MO, but I do not know whether they married before or after they came to MO. They were in Missouri by 1856 or so. If anyone is interested in our branch of Amanda Jane's NIX's ancestors, I can probably help some. Our interest is in their ancestors. Kathy - I know Wanda Gregory is behind in her correspondence, but right now she's working on Micajah Walker - Edward, Valentine Nix lines. Maybe it would be a good time to call - her number is 473-479-3241. I would suggest about 8:30 or 9:00 EST. Faye > I also have some info on Valentine Nix and would love to talk to Wanda. Hi I also have some info on Valentine Nix and would love to talk to Wanda. I did write her about my line but never received a reply. Was told that she is VERY busy by others. There were more than one Valentine Nix in SC. The one I am tracing is, I believe, the father of William D Nix Sr. William and his last wife Sarah Whitner had a son Willis Valentine Nix. William was listed as being born in Laurens Co., SC. I found one Valentine Nix who was born in Laurens, SC. My line::: 1.Larkin Nix (b ca 1825) and Elizabeth Prince 2.Jasper Nix (b ca 1852) and Beedie Dacus 3.Maggie Nix (b 1887/88) and John Elford Stephens 4.Nina Stephens ( b 1924) and James Willie Martin (parents) Was my Larkin the son of Larkin Nix, son of Valentine Nix? The older Larkin was born ca 1801. there was a relationship between my Larkin and William D Nix Sr, father of Willis Nix. However nothing is conclusive on the relationship. William D Nix Line 1.William D Nix Sr. and 2 or 3 wives 2.Willis Nix and Mary Ann Evatt (b ca 1854)(sister to Nancy Adaline Evatt Stephens) 3.Vinettie Nix and G.C. Moore 4.Marvin Moore 5.Beulah Galloway of Easley Anyone know anything about any of these people??? Thanks Kathy in SC
Hi Wanda - I talked with Wanda Gregory this afternoon by phone - I had sent her copy of the note sent by Paula Coffee the other day, since I knew Wanda had worked a good bit on the Micajah Walker line. Also read her the following E-mail from Holland Walker. Wanda thinks Valentine is not the son of Edward, and grandson of John Nix. Edward had a son Valentine, but this is not the correct one - way too old to be the right son. I've asked her to call me back and outline this family & will try to post when she does so. She also requested the addresses of Paula Coffee & Holland Walker, so she can correspond with them. Thanks, Faye Poss ------------------------------- The following note was sent by a non-subscriber to the Nix-L.
