In a message dated 98-02-09 22:19:47 EST, you write: << I am trying to locate the Mary NIX listed in this census 1850 census Cherokee Co., Ga., >> Terri, I can't find the connection to your Mary Nix, but our Nix families are certainly in the same area at the same time. Here is what I have: Cisro Valentine Nix, b ca 1825 SC, m Cynthia R. Smith b ca 1822 SC, They moved from SC to GA about 1845. First 2 children b in SC., 6 ch b in GA. Their children were Irena, Francis Calloway, Perry, William F., John B., Martha, James Layfette, and Louisa. In Georgia they lived in the CrossRoads area for Cherokee County. I have them on the Census for 1850,60,70,80. My line is from their son, James Layfette, b Ga 1858, m in Ga. 1881 to Nancy Adoline Seabolt, b 1860 Ga. Their children were John F., Cynthia E., Virgil Velpole, MARY V. (b 1889 Ga), Walter Carl, Plumer A. and Edward. The children were born in Ga except Walter carl and Plumer who were born in Ala. Virgil was my grandfather and he said the family left Georgia and went to Alabama for awhile before moving on to Texas There were several Nix families in this Chrokee County area. On the 1850 census I found a John L. Nix b. 1801 SC who was living nearby to my Cisro Valentine Nix. I'm thinking this may be his father. And also living nearby was Charley Nix, age 74, b SC about 1790, who may have been the father of John. Charley Nix was also living next to Thomas Nix, b ca 1819 SC. Anyway, it seems that all these Nixes came from SC to Ga. and are probably related if we can ever find the connection. Let me know if you need more details regarding census records. That's about all i have for them. Chris R.

Hello Nix Cousins.... Looking for information/confirmation about the following family... Edward NIX, born Abt. 1833 in Talbot County, GA; died Abt. 1874 in Rusk County, TX. He was the son of Elijah NIX and Martha (NIX). He married Mary SKINNER Abt. 1864 in Muscogee County, GA. Children of Edward NIX and Mary SKINNER are: i. Joseph Eligia NIX, born 10 April 1865 in Columbus, Muscogee County, GA; ii. Elizabeth NIX, born April 1867 in Alabama; iii. Butler Elbert NIX, born 11 December 1869 in Louisiana; iv. James Jackson NIX, born 06 October 1871 in Henderson, Rusk County, TX; I can not prove the parentage of Edward Nix. I believe, based on several clues, that he is, but am looking for some hard evidence. In 1870, Rusk County, TX, I found : Edward, Mary and family (all except James), along with a Thomas and a Ben, older than the oldest child (Joseph), but I believe too old to be children of Edward and Mary. Possibly younger brothers of Edward? or Mary? The head of the household on this census is a man name Darkey? (difficult to read). I am sure this is the correct family, due to the unusal (as far as I've been able to ascertain, anyway) name of Butler for my GGGrandfather, and the fact that I know Joe Nix was his brother, and they had a sister named Lizzy who married a Vineyard. Anything sound familiar out there? I can't find Edward in 1860, but he may still be with his parents? Any help appreciated. Kelly Nix Norman, OK sooner1@mci2000.com

I am researching the Nix/Sanders family from Barnwell Co., SC. I found marriage records for a Hugh Sanders and Nathaniel Sanders in "Marriages in Barnwell Co., SC." Hugh married Elizabeth Nix in 1821 and Nathaniel married Georgiana Jeter in 1840. Hugh Sanders (born c1792 in SC) and Elizabeth (b. c1792 in SC) "appear" to be Nathaniel's parents. A Hugh Sanders shows on the 1840 census of Barnwell Co., SC. Then in 1850 and 1860, Hugh Sanders with wife Elizabeth and Nathaniel with wife Georgiana show on census of Rapids Parish, LA. Any help you can give will be appreciated and I will be happy to share my data. Thanks. Ben Carroll benlock@email.msn.com

The following people are some of my Nix ancestors. Please contact me if we can exchange information at dnix@fgi.net My family came to the USA from Germany or Prussia through New York. Some of the boys came over and worked to send money home for others to come. Eventually they settled in Wendelin, Illinois (Clay County). This is a rural area near Olney, Newton and not far from Effingham. Some of the family never came to the USA. We believe that Christian Frederick and Magdalena Widerspahn Nix had 15 children. Christian was born Feb. 6, 1818 and died Sept. 17, 1877. We believe Johanne Jacob was his father, Jacob was Johnanne's father and Christian was Jacob's father. The oldest Christian was born in 1733. I don't have much information on these men. Magdalena was the daughter of Feit and Magdalena Wolf. I don't believe they every came to the USA. Magdalena was born Nov. 17, 1818 and died Dec. 29, 1878. I believe that Christian F. and Magdalena came to the USA after all their children were born and after the USA Civil War. I don't know which boat, etc. It was around 1870 when they came to the USA. They are buried near Wendelin, IL. My great grandfather, John Baptist Nix, was the next to the youngest child. He was born Dec. 8, 1862 and died Aug. 4, 1897. John married Anna Lilly Kistner and had 6 children. Some of Christian and Magdalena's children were: Teckla b. 1840 married _________Brandt Henrich b. 1842 died 1861 in Germany Jacob b. Feb. 22, 1845 and died May 29, 1927 in Chicago. Jacob fought in the Franco Prussian War and his family has medals from it. Gertrude b. 1847 married Joseph Hauser and William Schmitt. She died in 1903 Joseph b. 1848 never came to USA Julia born Sept. 2, 1849 and died 1920 in Olney, IL Josephine born 1851 married ________Claudy Silas born May 21, 1853 and died June 9, 1932 Susan born Dec. 25, 1855 and died June 4, 1944 Henry born in 1857, stayed in Germany and was a priest Charles Henry born Sept. 24, 1859 and died July 4, 1937 in Olney, IL John Baptist born Dec. 8, 1862 and died Aug. 4, 1897 in Wendelin, IL. Philip born March 16, 1866 and died Sept. 23, 1922 I have other data to share. My great grandfather was John Baptist. My grandfather was Valentine Silas Nix. Valentine and Vera Jane Roberts had 7 boys and 2 girls. My father is Robert Dale Nix and I'm Darlene Kay Nix. dnix@fgi.net

In a message dated 98-01-26 23:38:55 EST, you write: << I have the following information on my NICKS line. John NICKS born 1720 in Wales. Married Margaret QUINTON 1740 Guilford,NC. >> Hi, I am not familuar with your family, but you might want to study Guilford County, NC, as it was not formed until about 1770. I believe most of Guilford County was formed from Rowan County, NC, which included almost half of the state at the time. Also, there was a McQuistion family living in area at the time. You might want to research that family some to see if you Margaret Quinton was connected to the McQuiston family in some way. Three McQuiston brothers came to America, arriving at New Castle in 1735, and then coming to North Carolina about 1753 with the Nottingham Company. Hope this helps in some way.
