    1. Re: Fw: Fw: [NISHNAWBE] Chippewa Research: Where does one start?
    2. OK, looks like your signals might be a little crossed here goes: Charles Bottineau b. 1 May 1776 Berthier Quebec married Techomehgood Assiniboine b. ABT 1780 Winnipeg Manitoba Charles parents are: Pierre Bottineau b. 1730 Doulon Nates France Angelique Fournaise b. 14 Dec 1742 Lavaltrie Quebec The Red River area might be around Pembina North Dakota. Turtle Mountain Reservation is near there. These are the Original Metis that settled around Winnipeg Manitoba. They were given Script by the Canadian government and forced off thier land by deception. There is much information on the Metis Resource Centre site out of St Boniface Manitoba. Volumes could be written about this genealogy and has, Gail Morin is a prime source. Try _www.metisresourcecentre.mb.ca_ (http://www.metisresourcecentre.mb.ca) If this is your Charles then that would be a good start. Don't be surprised if more then one tribe pops up along with 20 or 30 children. French Canadian men had "country wives" indian women they married or lived with on thier voyageur trips. Then had another wife, with children, in Montreal that was non-indian! The Catholic Church kept excellent records and made marriage contracts that date back to the early 1600's. Keep me posted if this is your line?
