For certain reasons I think he might be of native American heritage. We have been unable to trace him before Mackinac Island, Mi. around 1836 when he married Marguerite McGulphin. I believe it was on the 1836 Indian census of Mackinac Co. Mi.that two Lapierres are mentioned but gives no first names. In the book"Wisconsin Creoles" it mentions a Ignace Lapierre and his son Francois. Ignace also has a daughter Pelagie. Francois was born about two years before my Theophile which could have made him a brother possibly. Theophile also named a daughter "Pelagie" and I know that children used to be named after an aunt or uncle. Does anyone rtecognize these names and might be able to pinpoint Theophiles parentage . Any help would be appreciated.
