Larry - Edward (Eloi) St. Arnauld/St.Arnaud (now days St.Arnold) and his wife, Mary DesCarreaux settled in Baraga Co., MI. I believe that this is where the SANTINEAU surname began to be used (it was spelled as it sounded) - some of the grave markers in the Assinins Cemetery show Santineau and Santinaw. Mary was 1/2 Chippewa, the daughter of Francois DesCarreaux I, a French fur trader, and a Daughter of Chief Waubojeeg I - "White Fisher". Edward & Mary were married by Fr. Frederic Baraga at LaPointe, Madeleine Island, WI on Aug. 30, 1835. They were my husband's 3rd Great-Grandparents.
