I was not raised near my Native community therefore I am learning all of the culture and arts at a later age. However my father moved back home a few years back - Lac Courte Oreilles - and I travel back there every year to glean knowledge and insight. One thing that really gripes me - is when I go anywhere - and I have to choose English or Spanish. SHouldn' t we be choosing between English and a Native Language? I find that my purchases of any books - I have to special order in or I have to find them when I travel back to my roots. I completely agree that something needs to be done and soon.
