Boozhoo, The Gathering of Nations Pow-Wow they were going to in the movie is an actual event down here in Albuquerque. This year the dates are April 22-24, 2004 ...The movie showed the pow-wow outdoors but it's actually indoors. The vendors here have every conceivable thing Native & are set up around the top of the Pit & out doors. It's a 3 day event...the last 2 dedicated to the dancers, give aways & the awesome guest drummers from around the US & at times Canada. It's an All Nations gathering & wonderful. It's held in the UNM Pit..where the basketball games are played. The Pit has an arena similar in style to the old ancient Roman Coliseum. No matter where you sit you can see & the dancers come by the 500's..almost a thousand on the floor for Grand Entry..I cry everytime I see it which is every year..the colors dazzle, when they dance it's like looking at a kaleidoscope... Everything Native..foods, clothing, music, School grants info centers, medical info..the new Native musicians, actors at times appear too for autographs, you name it. Should anyone wish to experience an amazing site....this is it. My husband says now he knows how Custer felt (he's Scottish) but Indian at heart now, surrounded by soooo many traditional peoples...I'm a Chicago transplant & miss the U.P. areas of my families, but this makes it all worth living down here in the high desert. This is the site you can go to for info... www.gatheringofnations.com Baamaapii. teri b ----- Original Message ----- From: <NISHNAWBE-D-request@rootsweb.com> To: <NISHNAWBE-D@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, December 30, 2003 4:34 PM Subject: NISHNAWBE-D Digest V03 #247
