Kareen Metis is French for mixed bloods. Through time they banded together living a lifestyle and created a language basically there own. The clothing was colorful, the foods became rather unique to there ways. Some seem to think mostly of the Red River Valley community but Metis were and are across Canada and the the upper US border states. Baically a a culture of white and Indian mix. We have recently received the same recognition/staus as an Indian in Canada. Many have struggled long and hard to get to this point but the struggle will continue to right the wrongs of the past. Here in Minnesota we have numerous bands (each rez is a band) that make up the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe. Chippewa tribes are locate Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and more. Yet Canada has more Chippewa that there are in the US. Taking into to account all of the Chippewa of the US and Canada you have the Chippewa Nation. We are divided by an artificial line and government beaurocracy with US side Chippewa not being recognized by Canada andvice versa.. Hope that helps...
