    1. Re: [NISHNAWBE] Dreamkeeper or Dreamcatcher
    2. The movie had a plot to start off. Grandfather was a Story Teller from Pine Ridge, Lakota. Had been wounded in WW 2 was 87 years old. Had a troubled grandson who was being hounded by the local Rez "gangbangers" for money owed. Grandson is talked into taking his grandfather to a Pow Wow 600 miles away. In return Grandson gets Grandpa's 1966 truck beater. Grandfather starts his story telling, shows diversity among various indian people stories. Tribes from the east Mohawks or the confederation, along with the Algonquin speaking tribes, one from the North west and the Plains indians, various time frames from 1600 to about 1830. My grandmother was a story teller (Clan mother type) so I can relate. The plot thickens when Grandpa takes grandson to meet grandsons estranged recovering Alcoholic father . Thinking most of the time grandson is going to Pow Wow meets a father he hates. Grandpa dies in night, father and son reunite, grandson goes to Pow wow riding Grandpa's horse. Estranged father takes grandpa back to Pine Ridge. Grandson follows in Grandpa's tradition and becomes story teller. Everyone lives happily ever-after?! Bottom line it depicts indian people as bright caring people (not white man's savage) and shows factual tradition. How about them apples Crudgemudgen? Earl (runs with dogs)

    3. Dear Curmudgeon: You were over-reacting about fifty messages. Actually, there were only 41 Dreamcatcher messages yesterday, which is about the same number of messages received from December 16 - 23, and well over the usual 5 message daily average and even more than the ones I received offering me millions of dollars held in Nigeria or suggesting how I might proudly alter my body parts. Perhaps Nishnawbe's list has become crossed with the Dreamcatcher fan club list or something. I caught my own dream last night that all this was just a dream and the list had gone back to normal, whatever that is. Best regards and happy new year, anyone, and excuse me if this note is #42 in your inbox. 2. Jan - I'm with you! I've thought about that before. How my grand parents were born in the teens, they're all gone now. From cars to computers to space exploration and the man on the moon! I will never forget that moment for as long as I live! A final thought - what was wrong with only 3 networks? Some of the good shows from my childhood was the Twilight Zone, I Dream of Genie and I loved the Ghost and Mrs. Muir (I thougth of that cuz Mrs. Muir just died) Remember Dark Shadows? Too funny. Couldnt wait to get home from school to see that. The Monkees and Laugh In, the Smother Brothers, Walt Disney, etc. My greatest fantasy was to be Diana Ross cuz she had gorgeous hair and gorgeous clothes! Remember how beautiful and graceful Peggy Fleming was?! I dont even watch TV anymore (except HGTV or PBS/Discovery) because its predictable, silly or just plain stupid or vulgar. I cant imagine what will be on in another 10 years. I guess we'll have something to say when we get older - Rob and Laura didnt even get to sleep in the same bed! LOL! Happy New Year every one! Happy researching, Terry

    1. [NISHNAWBE] Story Telling
    2. Howdy Everyone If you are old enough (like me) just sit a minute and think about all the changes our grandparents have gone through. My grandfather was raised before cars. At age 8 he quit school (being the oldest) and worked at a lumber camp in Cheboygan, Michigan area. He drove teams of horses and peeled bark off the tree's that they had cut down. Just look at one of your grandchildren at age 8 and think of his poor little fingers. Later he worked in a pit sawing logs. He later worked in the Tannery for 25 years (tanning hides) and they closed up, no pension, nothing. But he told me he learned many things, so it was all right. He made friends with many of the men who were from other countries and he learned their language. He learned other things from having so many friends. There first TV had one channel which usually had cartoons on it. Before he died they had a man on the moon. So many changes but if we don't take the time to remember them and tell our children then yes it will all be lost. I am trying to make a file for everyone in our family and makes notes on things that they did or what happened to them during their lives. Jan Gouin Yes, I too watched Dreamkeeper. I enjoyed it greatly. It made me sad to think that my ancestors were unable to tell me stories handed down from generation to generation the way they were done in the years past. Too much white blood over the years has made it impossible to connect with the spirits of old. I have attempted to tell my grandchildren of their past but it is all from researching and not from actual accounts of my forefathers even though it is not too far back. I would recommend anyone watching this if they have the opportunity again......redtailchickenhawk......
