I have two names if you would be so kind as to look up: Morisseau (or sound a likes, spelled lots of ways) and McPherson. In 1843, Ontario was called Canada West and Quebec was called Canada East. They became Ontario & Quebec in 1867. ----- Original Message ----- From: "bud" <bud@alliancecom.net> To: <NISHNAWBE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, February 04, 2004 5:19 AM Subject: Re: [NISHNAWBE] 1812 Map > is there such a thing as Canada west? my g grandfather william johnston was > supposed to have been born in apr 1848 in Canada west. I came across a photo of Mrs. Shipshewanna in an old South Bend Times Newspaper dated 3-22-1898. Hope it helps someone. Its barely legible but says she is potawatomi.... Send me a note and I will pass it on to you. Cindy
Terry Who is the ancestor you are trying to connect to Hippolyte and do you have any existing information on that person? Name, any dates, spouse, children, any known siblings. Did they settle at White Earth or where? Indian agent records at that time would most likely have some detail and NWC records should also have communications regarding the incident. Federick & Elizabeth Ayer did not arrive at Sandy Lake until about 1831 and I know of no other missionaries in the area before them so that part would not be considered. I have not seen any single source for William Aitken's communications but I believe all NWC records and communications were kept. Back to the White Earth question. Fairly good family tree were compiled on those that were allotted lands there and these records have been microfilmed. The Minnesota Historical Society has these. They also have many of reels of records stored at the National Archives. If any of the descendents are enrolled the enrollment office may have what you want as well. I have recently discovered an ancestor of mine worked for Aitken as a boatman at Sandy Lake and was killed by a Leech Lake Indian called "the Nut" in 1822. I was wondering if anyone has any information on Aitken's post records that might be of help to me in tracking down this ancestor. His name was Hippolyte Rhel, Relle, Rielle. I am trying to verify he is the father of my ancestor who was brought to live at the Sault after he was killed. I would also like to verify any possible siblings. I doubt I will find a name for the Indian woman who was his mate, but you never know! Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated! Thanks! Joan If he had any kind of estate there should be a probate. What I could make out of the info sent: Sally Star (5th great grandmother? Any dates of birth or death? Where born & died?) m1. Matthew GASLIN (married Boston 1794) m2. Edmund COFFIN (married 1796) of Freeport, Maine Sarah Coffin born between 1796 and 1816 (4th great grandmother? Coffin or Gaslin? Any dates of birth or death?) m1. Butler C. Wood (married 1816) of Winslow, ME (missing great great great grandmother) (missing great great grandmother) Hattie (great grandmother) grandmother mother Joan Between your great grandmother Hattie and Sarah are two missing generations that could have contributed Indian blood, three generations to Sally. Where she was born would tell the most. Is there a will anywhere or a probate? Do you have parentage, sblings, children of Matthew or Edmund? Which of these two do is the father of Sarah? Butler (Fr: Boutillier) is also a somewhat common name to have intermarried. Do you have any additional info and I hope this helps! Many thanks for all the emails..... Duh.... Been too long with AOL and I have too many postings on bulletin boards and other sites to change. I don't want to miss any kind of message to this email address. Guess I'll endure the lost and just check the archives on a weekly note. Dang..... I think I listed all my family names..... Please keep in touch : ) Janice Deney/Dana/Denny/Denney, McNitt, McNaughton, Clark, Lindsey, Downhour, Spurling, Suttle, Diltz, Dean, Henry, Ray, Simmons, Keifer, Jones, Langdon, Rowe, Powell, Kellow, Thomas, Chinn/Chin/Ching, Glasson/Glason, Russell, Kevern/Keverne, Wills, Matthews,
I have got notices from my isp that the new virus out is slowing a lot of servers down as not everyone has an anti-virus program. Lena
Gary I followed your link. It is more like a technical miscommunication. I am not an AOL fan but it does not seem to be anything intentional, only technical differences and I am certain they are working this out. Each site will have their own plan or way to do things... with the change of the rootweb IP numbers there was a collision in differences of technical decisions is all. Hi Larry and All, Just had to let you all know why I haven't been online lately. I had a mini stroke this week Monday and am very lucky to be back and up and around again. It was the most frightening experience of my life, I thought I was going to die when everything started to go black. I couldn't move either my right or my left side at first and finally did deep breathing and inch by inch shoved myself along the floor across the house to get to a working phone. My left leg and left hand are almost back to normal but not quite. I can't seem to type as fast as I used to. I would hate not to be able to do genealogy with you guys. I am retired and home alone alot and this is one way I stay connected to the world. Keep me in your prayers please Love and hugs, BettyK ----- Original Message ----- From: "Larry F. Hi Janice! It's Lynda "Spiritdove!" I am still recieving e-mails...but they have been very few. I think many may be trying to unravel the worms that have been sent out lately on emails. Viruses. Bad stuff! My Mackintosh does not get viruses...at least not so far! I feel blessed to have changed over. Guess what? I am on the Board for the Penn Cove Water Festival this year. I wrote and had made the 60 invitations for all the Tribes in Washington State and all the Coastal Tribes in Canada! I just sent them all out yesterday! This year will be something totally new and special! Our Coupeville Museum got a new Director who is Pro-Indian...and is working with us to create the most Historically correct Festival yet! We may even have more Indians than whites this year!!! It will be EXCELLENT! You may want to come...but would have to plan on riding the bus all the way up to Coupeville and back to the ferry. You see, this year we have a bunch of Blackfoot Indians from Canada who will be staying with us during the event! Our house will be full! But, perhaps you could hook up with a friend who has a car and make a full day of it! It will be May 15th from 11 till 6pm! That is a Saturday. Rain or Shine! Well worth the journey!
