I read the web site as well. I was not pleased with the analogy but am not knowledgeable enough to say I object. I was very shocked that any of this material was published or shown publicly without proper consent. More shocking is that the person responsible held a very trusted position. The psychology part as well as early practices are out of the area of my knowledge, study and research areas. Religious knowledge is one of the areas of interest that have been most inaccessible to me like most that grew up away from the Rez. My mother seemed knowledgeable but also claimed to be Catholic - I don't know! She died when I was 11 and there was little time to share life. It would be great to hear from someone practicing traditional religious ways and their viewpoints on this issue. Larry Friend (Black Buffalo) friend@2z.net
Howdy Everyone Read the info on U of M and needed to say. I live near there and they had a load of nuts over there. As far as I am concerned the only thing they are good for is the use of there Graduate Library. The majority of the flakes you see on every corner. I worked 2 blocks from campus for over 25 years and nothing they come up with is a suprise to me. At the U they have an AMERICAN INDIAN SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING SOCIETY. I would think this would be a place to start any objections. I have they have an Indian society that helps and attends the Pow Wows. Not sure how to reach them but that would be another place to send objections. The main address of the U will not get you anything but the waste basket. If anyone is interested I will find out more about the email address of the whatever you want. I also find this disgusting to put out and hope we can find a good way to get our objection though to them. Jan Gouin.
Jim I don't know if you have these or if they are related but they may help. At the very least it may be another spelling to research. I am amazed that a professor at the university of Michigan would defame Native Americans. Her name is Lynn Conway. Her web page (and the material I refer to here) is at : http://ai.eecs.umich.edu/people/conway/TS/Anjelica/Bailey-UCLA-Lecture.html#anchor260409 Please note it is sponsored by the University of Michigan! Below is one paragraph dealing with sex toys and comparing them to the religious relics and regalia of Native Americans: "Thus Anjelica brought a female mask, fake breasts, a wig and a rubber vagina to the interview. She showed these items on camera, and explained how the items in her experience went beyond sex, and had the power to confer identity, i.e., that they were "transformative" to a pretransition person - much as masks, feathers and powerful animal-spirit fetish items related to eagles and bears were to Native Americans (whose use of identity transformative fetish items Anjelica had deeply studied)." I find this deeply offensive as I am sure do you! To compare those who patronize sex shops for their toys to Native American religions is deeply disturbing. I have written to the University of Michigan to protest this flagrant disregard for the religious symbols of your peoples. The image of your shaman with fake breasts, a woman's mask, and a false vagina is evil and disgusting. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Cut-and-pasted from this week's Scout Report: Wisconsin Public Land Survey Records: Original Field Notes http://libtext.library.wisc.edu/SurveyNotes/ The area that now constitutes the state of Wisconsin was first surveyed by the federal government between the years 1833 and 1866. This survey was performed (as it was across the United States) to divide the public domain into salable-sized lots that could be sold or given away to both encourage settlement through this territory and raise monies for the federal government. While surveyors divided up these lands into townships and smaller units, they wrote a general description of what they observed during their time on the land. Fortunately for persons interested in landscape history and the original land survey information, these field notes from the Wisconsin Public Land Survey are now available online, courtesy of the University of Wisconsin Library and the Wisconsin Board of Commissioners of Public Lands. Currently, visitors to the site may access the original field notes by clicking on an interactive map of Wisconsin, then moving down to the appropriate area of interest by range and section. For the novice user, there is also a helpful background section relating the details of the land survey which will help them on their way. [KMG]

Hi Larry; This site on Ambrois Davenport is included on the web page that Terry and I did regarding Mackinac History. I believe it is under the architecture section. We really haven't added anything new as of yet, but in case some of you missed the link after we put the page up just before Christmas; you might want to check it out. The URL is as follows: http://www.rootsweb.com/~mimacki2/page1.html Anyone with ideas on how we can improve the site, your comments are certainly welcome. Anyone wanting to display their family genealogies can also contact us. Enjoy your day. Cindy "Larry F.
