Hello there: Just finished taking a look at one of your more recent items covering Parish Registers for Co Tyrone. I've edited it down for just the C of I and all I can say is that the fire of 1922 in Dublin must have been a biggie, there are hardly any Baptismal Registers for the C of I for the 1830 period covering Co Tyrone. The rest is now by guess and by golly. Looking for William Macklin C of I B 1830 Co Tyrone. Eric As in all genealogical endeavours, The further back you look, The further back you see, The longer you work for something, The longer you wait for something.
Eric and list, Regarding the COI registers, not all burned. The requirement at the time was that if the Church of Ireland rector did not have secure place to keep the registers (e.g., a safe), the originals were to be sent to Dublin for safekeeping -- ironic given the 1922 fire! HOWEVER, a number of registers were never turned over to Dublin and were kept in local custody. According to the Church of Ireland website, "[a]lmost half of the surviving registers were destroyed in 1922 and others have been lost at earlier periods. However, much of the lost information survives in transcripts and abstracts. The most recent published listing of parish registers is Noel Reid (ed) A table of Church of Ireland parochial records and copies (Irish Family History Society, Naas, 1994). In addition useful genealogical information may be had from other parish records especially vestry minute books, churchwardens' account books and cess applotment books."
