Ellen's uncle Robert (now deceased) lived at (until recently) 45 Dalry road, Saltcoats. I believe his Father is the Robert in Williams family, because he always referred to my father as "Uncle William" Like you, I too am too late in taking an interest in my ancestry, and anyone who could tell are now deceased, so having to do it the hard way. Have you gone any further back than William? I know his father was named George and was , assumedly, married to Nancy (I think I've got the right one) and is buried in Gorbals cemetry.
