My interactive map of the Administration districts of Ireland now includes Limerick. The map now shows: - maps of county and modern council boundaries for all of Ireland - the names of all Baronies and PLUs in Ireland - the locations of all baronies and PLUs in Limerick and Ulster - note the location is indicated by a marker showing the approximate centre, not a boundary map - the names of all Civil Parishes in Limerick and Ulster - the Civil Parish boundary maps for all of Northern Ireland and Limerick - the names of all RC Parishes in Limerick and Ulster - either the locations (as above) or boundary maps, for all RC Parishes in Northern Ireland and Limerick - all names and some boundary maps for Antrim Townlands - a selection of names and boundary maps of townlands in the rest of Ulster and Limerick Please let me know if you spot any errors. Some observations of web resources: - In Limerick, "The New Genealogical Atlas of Ireland" and the several websites which have copied this map include a few errors (the first that I have noticed in this excellent resource): - parish 23 in the east is actually 22 - one part of Loghill Parish not shown - it fills the little 'dimple' shown on the north coast in Kilfergus parish - parish 57 in the NE is actually 37, Clonkeen - Both the IreAtlas and Irish Ancestors sites contain a surprising number of errors (well probably not that surprising when you consider that the original is 1000+ pages of very fine type). They are both sourced from the General Index to the 1851 census. Errors include spelling (usually in places that are very hard to read in the book), townlands where the transcriber has swapped lines and put it into the wrong parish or county and some parishes which have been lost altogether. My observation is that the error rate is about 3-5% with IreAtlas being a bit better than Irish Ancestors and so it is best to check both and then triple check if they differ. - Also in looking up records, you should keep in mind that the parish a townland is in differs, sometimes very significantly, from the 1851 census to Griffith's Valuation. I have included some notes in the popup information windows on the map where I have noted differences. -- Kind Regards Murray Christchurch New Zealand Visit us at KiwiCelts.com <http://kiwicelts.com> * Cemeteries of New Zealand - Map, List and Web-links * Parishes of Northern Ireland - Map * Our Family History
