Barbara Hickey said: "Out of your names from Tyrone in1100 to 1600 -- Do you think that Corren came from Curran? Also where would McStravick have come from. Corren and McStravick were both from County Tyrone." ============================================================= Good morning Barbara and all. The old surnames of Ireland were generated from very old records like annuals of Ireland (various territories) for example. Those names were extracted and booked in alpha order by surname which was primarily an index I believe. >From there the names were broken down by county (old or new). The fly in the ointment was that not all names were assigned to a county or territory by other discription. In leu of information about where they lived, we checked those names through the annuls and found most of the areas that surname was substantially associated with. So from that our task is the same task that we always have.......to try to establish supporting documentation. Finally, much of what we hear was not written in stone, and if it was written in stone, often mispelled. Thank you all and I hope this helps with a tiny clue perhaps to lead to another step in our research. donkelly -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No virus found in this incoming message.
