John Burton identified his place of birth on his marriage certificate in 1881 to Mary Emma GOOLD (Reg. 3158 Births, Deaths and Marriages [Victoria]) as Carrowcolman. The certificate identifies his father as James BURTON, farmer (dec) and Isabella TAYLOR(dec). The witness to the certificate was his brother William James BURTON. By using Rootsweb, I can see the Townland of Carrowcolman, in the Civil Parish of Clonfeacle. (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~tyrone/parishes/tl/clonfeacle_tl.html) Where I get mixed up though is in the Griffiths Valuation of 1860. I can see 10 BURTONS listed in the Householders Index in the Griffiths Valuation and the Tithe Applotment Book of 1833. (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~tyrone/parishes/householders/clonfeacle1.html) I can also see a James BURTON listed twice as a tenant in Cadian, Clonfeacle on (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~tyrone/parishes/griffiths/clonfeacle/clonfeacle.html) but have no idea where or to what Cadian refers or whether this/these are other James BURTONS altogether. Sorry if I have merely added to the confusion. Robert Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
