Author: josephinemaryelizabethH Surnames: McGartland Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.tyr.general/67.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello,My Grandmother was Mary McGartland before she married Patrick McCaughey.All the McGartlands originated from a place called Crannagagh, in the hills above Dungannon in Co Tyrone in Northern Ireland.Its remote, and stunningly beautiful, and wild.In a tiny churchyard in Altmore, about a mile from Cranagagh, are buried Hugh and Mary McGartland who were buried there n 1882 and 1884,both in their 80's.Their son Felix married Catherine Quinn from Galabally nearby. They in turn had several children including my Grandma Mary.I was over in Ireland last month to see the hundreds of relatives{ all descended from the two in the churchyard}and we visited Crannagagh.Its still owned by a family member.I have asked 'Irish World,' based in Coalisland just outside of Dungannon, to research the McGartlands further ,as they just deal with Co Tyrone families.Although my great grandfather Felix stayed in Crannagagh and reared his family there, he is known to have had several brothers who emi! grated.One thing I'm sure of and that is that you are descended from Hugh and Mary just like the rest of us..
