    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: tyroneire Surnames: McCOLLUM, McFARLAND Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.tyr.general/6561.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Jenny, I do not have connections to this surname, but your people lived very near to my people (DONNELLYs of Cullion) and were located in the same District Electoral Division of Dunbreen (that D.E.D. contained only 8 townlands.) Per the Ulster Covenant of 1912, there was an Andrew McCOLLUM living in the townland of Carrigans, (civil parish of Cappagh) near Omagh. You can search the UC yourself and see the image which shows his signature. >From your note, I am *guessing* that Andrew and Sarah inherited her father's farm in Carrigans. You may want to check the valuation records to see if the records bear this out and if so, when this happened (that may be a clue to when John McFARLAND died). I did not see a listing for a Sarah McCollum signing a Declaration in the Ulster Covenant. I suggest you try the 1911 Census which is closest in time to the UC record to see who was living with Andrew at the time. The census entry should indicate if he was a widower and his age as well as anyone living in the house with him on the night of April 2nd. The LDS has microfilmed this record and the film number for the Dunbreen D.E.D. is 2146022 Item 3. Within that record, the specific reference for Carrigans in the 1911 Census is 95/3. For 1901 the film number is 856145 Item 2. Carrigans is in the 95/- grouping (1901 census had 14 townlands in that D.E.D., but the LDS catalog does not give the particulars. In case you are trying to track any other McCOLLUMs in Crosh (or Andrew was living in Crosh at the times of the Census), in 1911 that townland was located in the D.E.D. of Killyclogher (Film No. 2146023 Item 2, townland reference 96/4). For 1901 Killyclogher D.E.D.'s film number is 856146 Items 1-2, D.E.D. reference 96. Possible match for Death of Andrew McCOLLUM --- According to the Will Calendars for Londonderry Probate District (which covered the Omagh area), I may have found a reference to your Andrew having died in 1916 leaving a will. The information from the PRONI database is as follows: "ID number: 137562; Name: Andrew McCollum; d.25/11/1916; Date of Grant [of probate]: 04/01/1917; Effects: £1,071 5s.; Probate of the Will of Andrew ..." The Full Abstract: "Probate of the Will of Andrew McCollum late of Crosh County Tyrone Farmer who died 25 November 1916 granted at Londonderry to Charles Lyons and Andrew McCollum Farmers." I believe that the a copy of the will may still exist and be held at PRONI (http://www.proni.gov.uk). I hope this is of help. Regards, Clare L.
