    1. Re: [NIR-TYRONE] "Tircarr" and Jane Bernay & Robert Hall?
    2. Debby, It could be either townland, given that the difference is just one vowel and spelling was not as strict back then -- plus it could be a matter of a different pronunciation and Irish dialects. Do you have any other information to figure out which one? Ticar (Clogher) was 179 acres in size whereas Tircur (Cappagh) was 400 acres - I would imagine that the larger townland would have more inhabitants, but that all depends upon the quality of the land. According to the Householders' Index the HALL surname was present in the parish of Aghlurcher at the time of Griffith's Valuation and the Tithe Applotment. I don't have access to the Householder's Index for the civil parish of Cappagh, but you should check that too. Many libraries have the "Householder's Index" and there are indexes on CD of Griffith's. I believe the TIthe has been microfilmed by the Mormons. The closest spelling of Bernay that I could find in a quick search was BERNE and BARNE. Clare L. -----Original Message----- Thank you. My Joseph Charles Hall gives Tircarr Ireland as his place of birth on his marriage certificate. Would you concur that it is probably the township of Tircar in Clogher? How can I obtain any records such as census or BDm's for this place? Regards Debby -----Original Message----- Subject: [NIR-TYRONE] "Tircarr" and Jane Bernay & Robert Hall? There is a place called Tircur (aka Tyrcur) in the civil parish of Cappagh, not far from the town of Omagh located in the PLU of Omagh. There is also a townland called Tircar in the civil parish of Aghalurcher in the PLU of Clogher. -----Original Message----- <<< Hi, Is there such a place as Tircarr Co Tyrone? Has anyone any information on a Jane Bernay who married a Robert Hall? A son Joseph Charles Hall came to Australia around 1850 and his details are sketchy to say the least. He may have been born circa 1821. On of his Victorian marriage certificate he says he was born in Tircarr Co Tyrone to the above parents. Jane Bernay may have been born circa 1798. >>>
