I have McGarrity from Tyrone, but in Griffiths original and revision books, it is spelled "McGeraghty." Of the 8 children in the family, their birth records are almost all spelled a little differently - sometimes a double r, sometimes a double t. Only the birth record for my GGM is the apparently original McGeraghty. My point - no standardization in spelling and no help from my 2xg GF who was not literate. Good luck!
