You may also be able to narrow the deaths down to within 10 years by cross-checking with the censuses. So were both John & Mary alive in 1861, 1871 etc? I can see one death of a Mary Murphy nee Johnston in Paisley in 1871, aged 53. (GROS 573/01 0150). The age isn't quite right but in those days it was just the informant's best guess.
