I have a letter from my aunt saying that my great great grandfather Hugh Kennedy b.1842 came over to Durham, from Tyrone with his brother Thomas Kennedy b.1835 and cousin David Wilson b.1838. They were all coal miners. Thomas had a wife Isabella b.1841 also from Ireland and Thomas had a wife Mary b.1839 and in the 1861 Quarrington Hill, Durham census they had a daughter Martha b.1859 who was born in Durham Leadgate. My aunt's conclusion is that the three men came over in about 1859/9 and settled. She took over this research from her mother who started in 1970 and they are still no further forward in finding the parents and family of Thomas and Hugh. I know that a lot of records in Ireland were burnt and I am not sure how to start this search but if anyone can help I would appreciate it, I would love to use technology to help them since they have never used a computer and if I don't help I don't think that they will ever sort this out.
