Author: JoO45 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.tyr.general/101.1255.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Kevin, I do not know much more than what I stated. There was an earlier wife to Charles, so there may be descendants to older children if there were any. This Charles's (b. abt.1810) father was also Charles according to my father and he was born abt. 1785. Dad said they lived in Fintona. I found the elderly Charles in the Griffiths see below. (b. abt. 1810) I visited Fintona with my father when he was in his late 80's. It was a very emotional trip for him. I have found these records. Whether they lived around Fintona and the name changed or they lived in another townland this is what I have found: 1827 Found a Charles in the Tithe Applotments in Tyrone, Clonoe Ballybeg Griffiths Valuation of Tenements c. 1850's There were 8 households listed on page 214-- Tonneg Beg, (civil) parish of Donacavey, Barony of Clogher and Omagh Union. The religious diocese is Clogher. Charles reneted a house,, offices and land. Offices are outbuildings such as barns or small buildings for animals. His tax was 5 pounds 15 on 10 acres plus 2 and 10 shillings on the buildings. His landlord was Charles Eccles, who seemed to own most of the property in all the surrounding area. I did find birth records at our local Morman Family Search and the children were all born in Fintona. I think that's all I know but will send more if I recall anything. Oh another thing. When Dad and I were there we went to the local library and the librarian told us there were local Corrigans still in the area. We went out to their farm outside town. They were gracious but not really interested in connecting--likely did not know anything as it was the wife and daughter not the Corrigan man. Dad was overjoyed though and convinced it was his cousin's farm. We also found Corrigans in the old Donacavey graveyard outside of town. It's in a very remote area. I'll sent the exact directions if you are interested. We were looking for Thomas who died in Ireland--at the hands of the British (1880ish) but did not find him. We did find a James who died in the early 1700's! James Corigan Well I hope that helps you in some way on your search. 1. [NIR-TYRONE] McGuiness/McGrease/McGrece & Irvinestown
    2. Matthew Nulty
    3. Hi everyone, My name is Matt and I am new to this listserv. I have one lineage of ancestors from County Tyrone, that of my great-great grandmother Mary Gorman(1860-1951). According to her death certificate from the Bronx, NYC, her parents' names were James Gorman and Hannah McGuiness. This information helped me to find grave plots in NYC for her parents and all of her siblings (Rose, Patrick, James). When I went to FamilySearch.org, I was able to find some records that might be that of her siblings, but I'm not sure. Here are my questions. 1) The records I found on family search match up roughly with the birth dates from the tombstone of the brothers and sisters (there is no record for Mary though). However, all of the FamilySearch.org records list the father as James Gorman (a match), but the mother is listed as "Hannah McGrece/McGrease." Do you know if McGuiness and McGrece could be misconstrued as the same surname? 2) Some records indicate different locations of birth. For example, Rose Gorman (sister, born 1865) is listed as born in IRVINESTOWN,*FERMANAGH* ,IRELAND(https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F5P1-5MZ). On the other hand, one of her brothers, Patrick (born 1867) is listed with similar parents but in IRVINESTOWN, *TYR*, IRE (https://familysearch .org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F5J7-XYW). Can anyone account for this difference? Thanks very much! - Matt

    3. Hello Listers General Registration began in Ireland as follows; Protestant marriages from 1st January 1845 Catholic marriages from 1st January 1864 All Births from 1st January 1864 All Deaths from 1st January 1864 With a few exceptions all pre 1901 Census returns were pulped for waste paper during the First World War. Prior to these dates research is fully dependent on Church Records of baptism and marriage. The make this feasible we must narrow the search to a Parish. We must do this without the aid of census records. GRONI in Belfast hold all records of birth and death from 1864, Protestant marriage from 1845, Catholic marriages from 1864 {all to the present day}, which took place in the 6 counties of Northern Ireland. They also have some registers for the Republic where a Registration district crossed the old County {later international border} line. A good example of this would be Kilderry District { Londonderry Lower Liberties and Muff County Donegal} 60% in N Ireland 40% in The Republic best regards Robert www.ulsterancestry.com > From: [email protected] > To: [email protected]; [email protected] > Date: Wed, 13 Feb 2013 04:47:38 +0000 > CC: [email protected] > Subject: Re: [NIR-DERRY] Difference between Ireland and Northern Ireland forresearchers > > Just to add to Ray's information. > Ireland as a whole is an Island consisting of 32 counties and those are > divided between 4 Provinces, Ulster. John Irwin had a brother named Christopher. They came to the American Colonies shortly after the marriage. They soon settled in Lurgan/Letterkenny township in Lancaster/Cumberland county, Pennsyvania. Any help out there? Maybe I can help someone with Colonial Pennsylvania and Virginia records.
