Minnie wed William Robert Granniss (not George Everitt Grannis who would be her father-in-law). Minnie & William Robert Granniss had several children - their son George Robert Granniss wed my father's younger sister Margaret. Tragedy struck the Granniss family - Minnie's husband William Robert Granniss was killed in 1940 - several years before George Robert Granniss wed Margaret Bohan - thus my cousins never knew their grandfather. Minnie's son George Robert Granniss died in 1948 leaving Margaret a young widow with very young ones. Minnie died in 1950 - again my cousins were too young to remember much or to have asked genealogical questions. The facts that they did have were what their mother had learned - Minnie was from Northern Ireland. Minnie's mementos & papers went to her surviving children & it is not clear where the paperwork landed. I have looked at the marriage license & death certificate at city hall- the death certificate shows Co Tyrone. I can't explain why the 2 documents show different first names for Minnie's father (John & Frank). If I understand from your reply, your mother's sister was named Evelyn Granniss Palmer - Granniss honoring an aunt in America. Am I understanding that your maternal grandfather was Palmer & his sister went off to America & wed a man named Granniss? I had used IFHF to locate a civil/church birth record for Minnie with parents John & Fanny Palmer. IFHF gave back a civil birth record for Mary Palmer born 24 Feb 1870 to John Palmer & Fanny Armstrong in Augher-Clogher-Tyrone informant Margery (midwife?). There was a civil birth record for John Palmer born 13 Apr 1872 to John Palmer & Fanny Gervais in Augher-Clogher-Tyrone informant Margery (midwife?). Also there was a church baptismal record for Robert Palmer born 27 Apr 1868 born to John Palmer & Fanny Gervis of Martry Carnteel-Errigal Kieran-Tyrone informant/sponsor John. Could you grandfather Granniss have had sons named John & Robert? Minnie Palmer Granniss name her eldest child (a girl) Roberta Palmer Granniss(b. 1898). Roberta Palmer Granniss married a Thomas Lynch & named their eldest child (a girl) Evelyn F Lynch (b. 1918). This could all be coincidence or this American family is a branch of your family tree. I have now found out that my ancestor, Glaud McCutcheon Jr., was married before Mary Elder. He wed a Catherine Monteith in Kings Co., New Brunswick on 20 Nov 1845. His daughter, Catherine Ann McCutcheon, is Catherine's rather than his second wife's. I would, however, still like to know how Mary Elder and Rachel Elder are connected. Glaud and Mary married in Queen's Co., NB on 24 Aug. 1849. I still have no info about them in Ireland. This family is my first foray into European records. If I ever find anything, I will definitely let you know. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My line is by his son William, then descendants Archibald, William, Galbraith and Henry. The later's son (Rev William) arrived in Tasmania, Australia in 1842. Rev William studied at Trinity College in Dublin & married his wife, Ellen Bodecia Kavanagh in Dublin. His death certificate states he was born in County Cork. The recent discovery of a fresh headstone, placed on the Reverend's grave in 1995, states his birthplace was Co.Cavan. Hence I am now trying to formalise the dots between Galbraith (Reverend) who died 1780 in Richmond, Co Tyrone; his son, Henry (proported to be Procter of the Admiralty in Dublin) and the birth of his son, the Reverend William of Tasmania. Any information that could formalise the connectiosn, movements & births of Henry & son William would be much appreciated. Many thanks in advance, Racheal Richardson. It's a little hard to think that in County Tyrone that any of the few Corrigan families that lived there did not know each other and or be related to each other... I think we have a real find in each other. Currently I live in Seattle., but I grew up just outside of Philadelphia in Bucks Counnty, the core of the family is still in Philly. I have been sharing alot of info with another Corrigan also from the Philly area for a few years now, his family is also from Tyrone and then moved to Philly so we may have alot of info to share three ways. I will review every thing and get back to you. If you grew up in Philly what parish and schools did you go to. Wish I had more time at the moment...but will get back! Are you on FACEBOOK? I am so excited to receive your posting! So much time had passed - I cannot immediately recall how I made the connection to Augher Co Tyrone (it may have been the 1901 or 1911 Irish Census). Tomorrow I am attending a family funeral and the granddaughters of Minnie Palmer Granniss will be in attendance. I have been working on their family tree for them & have traced the Granniss line to time of the American War of Independence. But the Minnie's granddaughters are most anxious to learn about Minnie's family. The only clues that we had to work with were from the records in town hall for her marriage & death. I'll post a private message to you tomorrow after meeting with my cousins. Again, thank you so very much! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have old letters r/t a big estate from St Louis in 1939 that my Husband's grandfather was trying to find a connection to but with no luck. The lawyer's notes mentioned a Sarah Campbell that married a William Campbell from Derbrough and had atleast 12 children. This all had to do with brothers Hugh and Robert Campbell who immigrated to the US. Our William may have been distantly related but was from Gortin. I've seen notes connecting him to the McNickles and McFarlanes. I believe our William's father was likely named Robert, all were Church of Ireland. Don't know if that helps.
