Go to the GRO Roscommon website: www.groireland.ie/ Download the application form you need, and complete with the information you have, including the location, year, quarter (if one is shown), Volume & page number. Put that information on the lines for date and place of the event etc. Don't worry if you have to leave some boxes blank, eg PPS number. Be sure to tick the box marked photocopy, if that suits you, as it's cheaper. You then either fax or post the form off (there is no e-mail option for certs pre 1.1.1922). Their turnaround time is 7 to 10 days plus however long the post takes. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. You need to find the death record for Richard Sr. in Scotland which will hopefully name his parents. The family seems to have settled in Quebec where I find Richard Jr. with a wife and child in the 1881 census, and Edward is living with his mother. All of them are in Windsor Mills, Quebec. Ann's burial record in the parish records of the Presbyterian Church in Windsor Mills, indicates she is the widow of Richard Wilson, a native of Tyrone, Ireland; died 1 November 1888; buried from the residence of her son, Richard Wilson, to the cemetery in Brompton. Witnesses were Thomas & Edward Wilson. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Looking for any information or living descendants of Edward Murphy (born abt 1797, died abt 1857 in NY) from Donaghmore, or Ann Loughran (no birth/death data) from Killeeshil. Edward and Ann were married 20 Apr 1818 in the Parish of Killeeshil. I have a transcribed document from RootsIreland.i.e. and the actual church record (in Latin). Edward & Ann had the following children: Andrew, James, Edward (married Bridget M. Rory/McRory, Ann, Michael (my gg grandfather, married Rose Rogers), Neil/Neal, Rose. The family emigrated to New York arriving in 1848 according to the New York Emigrant Savings Bank records (and in Feb 1848 depending which entry you're looking at), aboard the ship Ashburton. I have found the ship Ashburton, but not arriving in New York in Feb 1848, and not with this family aboard. Andrew emigrated in 1841 according to the bank records on the ship Harvest, and I did find him. Any help is greatly apprecieated, Allison

Sometimes it does. If they both died in Scotland, their death certificates should give you their parents names. You could check to see if they ever made a Poor Law claim in Scotland. (Many did). If they did, then the records normally record the applicants parish of origin in Ireland. Poor Law records for the Glasgow area are in the Mitchell Library, Glasgow. http://www.glasgowlife.org.uk/Pages/search.aspx?s=GLWeb&k=Poor Law applications Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He was married to a Sarah McLaughlin (1815) and had John - Sept 1831, Henry - Aug. 1834, Sarah - 1837, Elizabeth - 1839 all born Ireland. The family then moved to Scotland and had Roseann - 1842 in Lanark and Patrick - Jan 1851 in Ayrshire. Patrick was a miner. Patrick and family were enumerated in the 1841 Scottish census in Clarkston, Lanark. I think this family may have come from Tyrone, but have not been able to find any info. Can anyone help? Author: bakerj151 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.tyr.general/7450/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I'm researching Hugh McPike. According to local area history books in the United States, Hugh was born about 1761 in Donegal, Ireland. However, I've learned that there are 10 McPikes in the tithes (late 1820s) in Tyrone, Monaghan & Cork and 14 McPike families in Griffiths Valuation of Ireland (1860) with all but one in Tyrone. So it may be more likely that he was from Tyrone, not Donegal. The USA sources say Hugh immigrated to Pennsylvania, USA about 1796, possibly with his father Thomas. Once in Pennsylvania, he married Mary Ann CRAWFORD and they moved about 1804 to Ohio, USA. It's unclear whether Mary Ann was born in USA or if her family also emigrated from Ireland. Other than the mentions in these local history books, I've not been able to find any records to support any of this information. I'm posting this with the hope that someone else may be researching this family or possibly have access to Irish sources that may shed light on the origins of Hugh McPike. Any information would be greatly appreciated and I would be glad to share information about Hugh's descendents in the US with anyone interested.
