Sticking exclusively to one would cause great offence and uproar in the other half of the community, who would ignore the change anyway. Author: elwynsoutter1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.tyr.general/7458.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The addition in front of Tyrone isn't E. It's "Co" for county. Presumably added by the enumerator. Andrew Smyth's similar annotations are not quite as clear but are probably also amendments to indicate it was Co Derry that he was born in (as opposed to the city of Derry). The terms Londonderry & Derry are for all sensible purposes completely interchangeable. The prefix "London" causes offence in some quarters, and so is not used by all. You will see both in regular use to this day. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Hi Ally, Here is some info about Loughrans in Killeeshil a parish near Donaghmore. These Loughrans lived in Cranogue. This is a link to a story about McCanns and Loughrans written by a woman in Drumfadd. Wanted to get this to you before you leave. There are no dates in the story but I know that the Owen McCann who is referenced as the oldest ancestor was born about 1780. http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/b/a/r/Lin-M-Barrett/FILE/0011page.html http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/b/a/r/Lin-M-Barrett/ Be happy to answer any questions you may have. Author: DaveBoylan Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.tyr.general/7444.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello Darrel, Thank you for writing back. Have you tried posting a message to the Fermanagh message board asking if someone would be kind enough to walk the Sydare Methodist Cemetery, in Magheracross, and look and then write down the information found on Charlotte Bleakley Loane's grave. Even you don't receive a response right away, someone in the future may come across your message and respond. Also, I did another search for the death index of Charlotte Loane in Fermanagh, as well as Tyrone, and the rest of Ireland, but did not find a death for her. Ancestry.com has a very good collection of death indexes for Ireland for the 19th and 20th centuries, but I turned up nothing at that website. Nor did I find anything at the IFHF website, though the IFHF has yet to compile death records for County Fermanagh, but I did look for Charlotte's death in County Tyrone, but again with no results. I also looked for Charlotte's death at the Latter Day Saints website (LDS), but with no results. I am wondering if a death cert was filed for Charlotte, or do you think she may have immigrated to be with one of her children? If you learn anything new, please let me know. Good Luck, Dave Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
