I've heard of Peter Kerr's book, but I've never had the opportunity to dig into it personally. I've found my 2xg GF Michael McGarrity in the 1901 and 1911 census, still living in the area, with youngest daughter, Margaret. Margaret came to the US in 1912, leading me to believe that Michael died in early 1912. There is a death index notation that would appear to be him. I've also found him in the Griffiths Revision Books, which recently came online on PRONI. If you have not yet looked at those, there is a wealth of information. Michael McGarrity and Sarah Hughes married before Civil Registration, so I have not yet been able to find a record of their marriage. The local RC Church register seems to stop about 1857, so there is a gap of about 7 years when I cannot trace them. We should probably ask the Admin to move this thread - it would likely be better seen and used on the specific board. Thanks, Ann Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The nearest town is Carrickmore. I have a little book entitled "Families and Holdings in the Townland of Innishatieve, Carrickmore" by Peter Kerr. Peter Kerr is a priest of the archdiocese of Armagh and my third cousin, one generation removed. The book on page 22 tells of John McGarrity coming to Innishatieve in 1855 after marrying Mary Boyle.(This Mary Boyle was a niece of my great grandfather Patrick Boyle who died in Innishatieve about 1842.His widow and their family left then for Ontario in Canada. Mary was the daughter of Conor Boyle, who came to Innishatieve from nearby Ackinduff townland in Killeeshill parish. Conor's wife was Mary O'Neil. The parents of John McGarrity were James McGarrity and Sarah Rafferty. The family of John McGarrity and Mary Boyle were John, Peter, Con and Kate. Peter took over John's holding and married Cassie Hamill. Their family were Roseanne, Mary Ellen and Kitty. The son John McGarrity, after going to England, returned to the Innishatieve area and farmed. Unfortunately the book doesn't say anything about his family. Kitty (Kate) married Packie McCallum. They continued in Innishatieve and raised a large family there.Their son, another Packie married Ita Donnelly and told over the holding. Does any of this ring any bells with you? If so let me know. I'll see if there are any other tidbits in the book. I realize this message is dense, but I hope understandable. I've visited Innishatieve several times over the years. We visit with Bridget and Teresa Kerr, maiden sisters of Father Peter Kerr. I live in Catonsville, a near suburb of Baltimore, Maryland, USA. James's name is deleted in black and Sarah's entered in black, indicating she replaced him at the same time. (She is later deleted in red and replaced by Kennedy in red. Same thing then.). Also you rarely see more than one person listed as head of household. As to Sarah's surname, I can see a dot above an "i" in her name. I think the last 3 letters are "inn". All I can think of is McMinn. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have McGarrity from Tyrone, but in Griffiths original and revision books, it is spelled "McGeraghty." Of the 8 children in the family, their birth records are almost all spelled a little differently - sometimes a double r, sometimes a double t. Only the birth record for my GGM is the apparently original McGeraghty. My point - no standardization in spelling and no help from my 2xg GF who was not literate. Good luck! I believe that James Smyth (Plot 5) was an ancestor of mine. The name above his is Sarah Mc_______. His mother's maiden name may have been Sarah McIntyre, his wife's maiden name may have been Sarah McMitchell. This name looks different though. Any ideas? 1) Did James and Sarah live there at the same time? Or was James replaced by Sarah at some point? It looks like his name was lined through twice. All of this information is in black ink. 2) The red ink changes come in 1877 when Sarah is replaced by Kennedy McMullan (?)
