John's parents were William and Mary Irwin. Their children were Helen, Minnie, William and John. They were from Glasgow, but originally from Ireland. The Shields and Williamson family John is connected to are also from Glasgow, but originally from Ireland as well. He could be connected on either side as my g.grandparents were first cousins, one's mother and the other's father were sister and brother. The Williamson family names are James Williamson and Agnes Shields, their children Elizabeth, Edward, Mary, Rachel and Helen, my g.grandmother, all these children were born in Glasgow. The brother's family is John Shields and Jane Gowdie. I am not entirely sure I have the right children, but have a listing for Isabella, Janet, Mary, Marion, Matthew and John. All the girls were born in Glasgow, the boys in Ireland. It has to be a girl named Mary that married William Irwin, but both sides have a Mary and I do not know which one she would be, or if I have the right family of children for the Shields, the parent's names are correct. I don't know where you got the snippet of McSorley's book, but it is now out of print as was explained in previous messages while it was being cut up and reprinted - in a few places. It was during the search for details about Eskra and it involved a number of conversations. Then I went to the RC diocese in Monaghan and the secretary to the bishop and I had a lovely conversation in the internet leading me to Patricia McSorley's address. (My great grandfather was involved in the parish cemetery, before it was a parish and only part of the Clogher parish, and I was searching for more background.) A long story made short; she obtained a copy of the book through her daughter from a person in Galway - and then sent it on to me. Because it was done in the 1980's, and it was a project that involved a lot of people in the community, the copyright was in the group's name, not McSorley (although she was the principal compiler). I told her what I was going to do, and having no objections from her (and there was no way to get to the group), I serialized part of the book in little snippets. I only received one "objection," and explained in detail what the status was, and that took care of that problem. This book is about the RC parish, and the schools around there, during about the period of approximately 1920 to 1950, but was compiled in the 1980's as an oral tradition or memoir. The posting was started in four places but soon had to be limited to two: Rootsweb Message Board (TyroneExPat) and clogherhistory.ie. The reason it is on the Clogher History website is that it was the diocese that got me interested, and helped me make it possible. And it is a neutral site. I am sorry that it is out of print, and not easily available except through very pricey book sellers. Mrs. McSorely is - as you guessed - up there in years and does not like the internet. At least that is what she told me, and I am a few years her junior, but still ancient and kicking. Mrs. McSorely was, I believe, a nurse. She married one of the leaders of the community, Brian McSorely, who was the owner of Nugent's Pub in Newtownsaville. Her children have grown up to be leaders and are still in Newtownsaville. She and Patricia Hackett were deeply involved in the compilation of the book and it was the Eskra History and Folklore Group that brought the book to fruition. It was printed by R & S Printers, the Diamond, Monaghan. And it was published in 1989. While I could not be of more help in finding a copy of the book, at least this gives one the rationale for the snippets. This is exciting I have never seen anyone else looking for McCOLLUM's of Tyrone. My family of McCOLLUMs came from Aughnacloy and were all married in the Presbyterian church but the 3 eldest that I have found were not baptized there. My gggrand father was Theophilus McCOLLUM married Margaret (appears to have married twice 1st wife CRAIG and 2nd BURNET but both were Margaret) c 1820 1st marriage Children we know of are John, c1821 Margaret c1828 Alexander c1837 Theophilus c1838 and Martha c1839 going by the gaps we had there would be some more older children I am guessing daughters as the 3rd son is named after his father ( although it was Alexander's second Name as well) Hoping there may be some connection with the McCOLLUMs from Mountjoy Patricia New Zealand

Details of all presbyterian churches in Ireland and their records can be found here: http://www.presbyterianireland.org/about/records.html Hope this helps Theresa

Hello Greg I have a marriage of my gggrandparents at Mountjoy Presbyterian Church in September 1836. Edward Irvine/Irwin and Ann Lynch. Would love to know if there were any other Lynch or Irvine records from around that time. We can't seem to find any birth records for their children Ann, James, Charles and Margary (sic). Neither can we find any death records for Anne and Edward.
