    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: Barbaraseibert2 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.tyr.general/6595.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Do you have any more information on Elizabeth Johnston? My GGGGfather, Arthur Johnston, immigrated from Newton Stewart to Philadelphia in about 1845 and I cannot find any information about him or his family before this date. He had nine children, one was named William and one was named Elizabeth. When I saw the names Elizabeth and William in your post, I thought there might be a chance of our families being connected, although I suspect they were both common manes to have. One brother had an uncommon name, which may ring a bell with someone--his first name was Kelso. I would appreciate hearing from you if you have more information on your Elizabeth, and also from anyone reading this post who might have information on these Johnstons--Arthur, William, Elizabeth or Kelso. Thank you, Barbara Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [NIR-TYRONE] Tully Reavy House & BEAVERs
    2. Joan, There is a by the name of townland of Tullyreavy located in the Poor Law Union (& registration district) of Cookstown, in the civil parish of Desertcreat & the Barony of Dungannon Upper . It is 242 acres in size (see www.seanruad.com) Do you have a timeframe for your Esther BEAVER? According to the Householders Index, there were only 3 heads of household in the County by that surname. Two were in the civil parish of Clonfeacle and one in the civil parish of Drumglass at the time of Griffith's valuation in 1860. At the time of the Tithe Applotment, the BEAVER surname was found in Clonfeacle civil parish (year 1823) but not in Drumglass (in 1826). Both of these civil parishes were in the Poor Law Union (& later Registration Dist.) of Dungannon. -----Original Message----- I am looking for a BEAVER family from Tyrone, the only name I have is ESTHER BEAVER. Your families appear to have been Church of Ireland, as you see in Robert Law's marriage to 2nd wife Matilda Armstrong: Marriage - 14 December 1864 Robert LAW and Matilda ARMSTRONG Altedesert Church of Ireland Pomeroy Parish, Co. Tyrone (Cookstown Civil District) Ordering that complete marriage record would give you Matilda's residence and her father's name. Irish World (Irish Family History Foundation) currently has on-line record ordering -- including marriages -- for 5 euros each. You can also order full records from Emerald Ancestors. Robert Law probably married Rebecca Armstrong before 1845 since I don't see her name in civil registration marriage indexes. If the two Armstrong wives were related, Rebecca's marriage might be in Altedesert Church of Ireland as well, something that could be researched. I'm researching Church of Ireland ARMSTRONGS who lived at Crosscavanagh townland, Pomeroy parish, since mid-1700s. Regards, Annie C. 1. [NIR-TYRONE] McCutcheon/McFarland - Dunbreen Lislap
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: khartley181 Surnames: McCutcheon McFarland Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.tyr.general/6609/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am hoping that I have made a break-through in the brick wall of my family history as I have now come up with what I hope is a specific area of Tyrone to search for records - Dunbreen Lislap Omagh.......... William McCutcheon, born 1868 ( /-5yrs) somewhere in Tyrone County, parents John McCutcheon and Mary McFarland, emigrated to Canada about 1887. In April 1894, he returned to Ireland and brought his mother Mary to Canada. The passenger list for the Sardinian out of Londonderry gives his age as 25 and her age as 50 but does not say where in Ireland they were from. Mary McCutcheon would die in Canada in 1899 - her death registration says she was 78. Also, in December 1894, William would marry Mary Maguire in Paris, Ontario, Canada - she was also from Tyrone (we do know a fair bit of her background). We believe that John McCutcheon must have died sometime before 1894 but we do not know when - he may have died before William first emigrated. William was supposed to have emigrated with his brother named Samuel BUT I just recently discovered that Samuel McCutcheon did not emigrate until 1891. He arrived Quebec on July 10 1891 from Londonderry aboard the Parisian and he was travelling with Thomas McFarland who I assume may have been a cousin. Both are listed as Farm Labourers and both headed to Paris, Ontario. Does not list their ages (hard to read but possibly they were both 17?) or their origins. Samuel supposedly headed west (?) and all family contact was lost........ The passenger list is the first real evidence I have found for his existance other than family stories. Thomas McFarland is a new lead but I cannot find him on the 1901 or 1911 Censuses in Canada - at least not in any area near Paris, Ontario so do not know where he ended up either. Then, there is a Samuel McFarland, born 1899-1902. He would marry a Cassie Walson (born about the same time) Together they would emigrate to Canada (his age given as 29; hers as 26) in 1930 aboard the Antonia out of Belfast. Also listed on the same ship was an Eliza McFarland, age 66 who may have been his mother. This couple also ended up in Paris, Ontario and my mother can remember visiting them often with her grandmother Mary (Maguire) McCutcheon so I assume there must have been a family connection there. Their headstone in the Paris cemetery says he was born 1899 and that she was born 1897 but that does not match the passenger listing nor a border crossing they made in 1930 to Niagara Falls NY when they gave their ages as 29 and 27. Not sure what happened to Eliza but I think Samuel & Cassie may have lived in Brantford before Paris so Eliza may have died and been buried in Brantford instead of Paris. Further input on the 1930 passenger list says that their last address was Dunbreen Lislap Omagh. It also says that Eliza - E J McFarland was only 26 years old not 66 and so therefore was most likely Samuel's sister not his mother - quite possibly she married somewhere in the area of Brantford???? I am hoping that possibly Samuel McFarland from the 1930 record was related to the Thomas McFarland from the 1891 record and that they are both somehow connected to my Great Great Grandmother Mary (McFarland) McCutcheon. If anyone can connect to or knows anything about the McCutcheon and McFarland families listed above I would appreciate hearing from you. Any info on Cassie Walson family would be a bonus. (Possible her name was Wilson or Watson???) THANKS Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Hi List: I am still trying to find the best way of researching my ancestor's family BMD records in Augnacloy Presbyterian Church. I have emailed the Minister, but have not had a reply. Children were as follows: 5) Son Thomas: born ca 1793 + Wife Elizabeth Cobean 6) Son John Cobean III, born ca 1820 + wife Hannah Fleming (married in Ontario) Dau Priscilla: born ca 1822 7) Son John Cobean Jr: born ca 1794 + Wife Mary Unknown Son: Alexander, born ca 1812 Dau: Agnes Nancy, born ca 1823 8) Son William: born ca 1801 (possibly a 2nd wife to John Sr) 9) Dau Mary: born ca 1804 10) Son Robert: born ca 1805 11) Son Edward: born ca 1808 12) There may also have been sons James & Samuel, but I am not sure. I would appreciate all help, and suggestions, as to how best research the Augnacloy Presb Parish BMD Records for the above family, to confirm the info I have, and to learn info I do not have. I am also interested in learning of John Sr's parents and possible siblings. I will be visiting Tyrone in early Sep and would like to have all my research completed by Aug, so I can see/view, etc, important sites, while in Tyrone. How would I locate Skey TL ( I can see it on a map) ? Are there any identifying marks that will let you know exactly where Skey TL is ? Is it still occupied ? Your help, and assistance with the above request, is deeply appreciated. Kindest Regards Jim White Naples, Florida
