In the Tithe Applotment the subdivisions of Crouck/Crock were noted (with surnames), but by the time of Griffith's it was only officially known as Cro(u)ck. I would love to learn about the research on your cousins as well as your own connections to the area. Just add @aol.com to my name to reach me off the board. Could anyone please let me know if the United Irishmen attacked Omagh during that time, or have some idea of why my ancestors might have left Tyrone? SANDRA from AUSTRALIA

    1. [NIR-TYRONE] Hamilton & Campbell Search in Tyrone
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: byronschmid Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.tyr.general/6612/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I continue to search for information on the Thomas Hamilton family. He was born abt.1800, the son of James Hamilton (according to his Michigan death certificate) . He and his wife, Izabelle, birthed at least five sons in County Tyrone: Andrew (c.18 Feb 1818?), Goyne (c.May 1825), Samuel (c.30 Sep 1831), William (27 Feb 1833), and Thomas Wright Hamilton (12 July 1836). The births of William and Thomas W. are recorded in the Church of Ireland records of Tamlaght by Moneymore, Londonderry. Those records show that Thomas was a school master, and the family lived at Kilsally in the civil parish of Ballyclog, County Tyrone. After Izabelle's death (sometime between 1836 and 1842), Thomas and some of the sons emigrated to the U.S. about 1842, settling in Michigan, where we do find records for Thomas and his children. Samuel emigrated in 1852 and his future wife, Mary Campbell, did so in 1855. Family memory recalls that Samuel and Mary did not know each other in Northern Ireland, but they lived about 15 miles from each other. The name of Mary Campbell's father was James. I have recently discovered that Thomas and Izabella also had other children who emigrated to the U.S: John, born c.1822; James, born c.1823; and Margaret, born c.1840. There mght also have been an Alexander. I have searched the LDS files where we found the above noted birthdates. However, the available records don't seem to precede 1833. The Ballinderry Parish Church, diocese of Armagh, informs me that it finds no records. I will be grateful for any suggestions on how best to proceed without an unwise use of limited research funds. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: rjkenney Surnames: morris, rogers, rodgers, brown Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.tyr.general/3243.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have done a fair amount of research on two sets of female cousins from Bodoney who emigrated to the US in the mid-1850s. They were all surnamed Morris. The parents of one set of Morris cousins were Thomas Morris and Mary Rogers; the others were daughters of James Morris and Catherine Brown. They were all born in the 1825-1840 time period. I am guessing they may have been from Crouck Morris because that townland shows a Thomas Morris and a James Morris in the Griffiths Valuation, as well as a Rodgers family. Do you have information about any of these families during this time period? If you are interested I would be glad to send you my write-up of what happened to the Morris girls here in the US. Author: nick393 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.tyr.general/2346.89/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for my Grandfathers family. He was Alfred Joseph Hone born in 1901 in the townland of Mulvin near Newtownstewart. His parents were John Hone and Sarah (nee Gallagher) married in Seein/ Scion Mills. They were still in Mulvin in the 1911 census but there seem to be few Hones in Tyrone now although more in Donegal. I wondered if the Troubles caused Catholic families to move over the border and therefore should I concentrate on Donegal rather than Tyrone? Anything you can suggest would be appreciated.
