    2. Christina Hunt
    3. We have started a headstone section for Tyrone with a donation for St Joseph's RC Church Cemetery at Glenmornan. Thanks to Florence for sharing her photos and getting Tyrone started. Please share any headstone photos you have. Headstones are a wonderful resource but one that is fading over time. We would like to document as many as we can. To view the stones and photos of the church and area go to: http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/ Click on Tyrone and then Headstones. There is also a direct link to the Counties with Headstones below the index table. Thanks, Christina Ireland Genealogy Projects Archives http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/

Author: littlespider_1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.tyr.general/2234.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, I am a McKavney from Manchester in the UK. The spelling of my surname it seems to have changed over many generations to how it is spelt today. I think that a lot of it has to do with the pronunciation of the word - obviously back in the 19th century and before that people's spelling wasn't as good as todays and so a name was written down on birth/marriage/death certificates phonetically (when a word is spelt as how it sounds). I know this for a fact because we have a family bible dating back to the 1800s which documents the numerous spellings to what it is today. The McKavney you are referring to is Maureen McKavney, my aunt who did live in Australia for a few years but now resides back in Europe. However, there are no McKabneys in our family but it is quite clear to see where the 'b' comes from if your relatives were originally McKavneys. Hope this helps! N.Z. I could not let your message pass by. I have Doherty's & Steele's also and seem to have come up against a brick wall. I have a Margaret Steele married a .... Doherty - they had 5 children Johnnie went to Canada, Andy married and had a boy and a girl, Bob Doherty, Lizzie & Tillie. Data obtained from a letter I have from Eliza Wray-nee Steele -her address was 12 Castle Place, Strabane. Margaret became a patient in Derry Asylum. The Steele's were Robert Steele b1844 a bootmaker who left Strabane July 1874 for New Zealand, with his wife Mary Ann Moore. Robert had a brother William John and a sister Eliza Jane Steele, who married a Wray, and Margaret who married a Doherty. I believe some family are buried beside each other in the old Cathedral of Raphoe. I would be so grateful for any help. Thanks, Rita. 1. [NIR-TYRONE] Roll Call - MACKLIN
    2. E Macklin
    3. Hi Teena: My brickwall has finally been solved after 6 years thanks to the Ulster Historical Foundation and of course Ulster Ancestry, along with PRONI. A few trips didn't hurt either. The only thing left is to locate records of MACKLIN headstones. Considering the hundreds of deaths over there and the fact that most headstones don't last much more than 100 years in terms of inscriptions and the stones themselves last maybe another 100 years. Most of the latter is usually down on the ground. Now I'll wait for the Clarke, the JMD and the other CD's to be reproduced by Eneclann at Trinity. Along with the occasional cemetery survey. Keep up the good work Teena. Eric

I'm just trying to peice together where we all came from, So it's information about Your and my dads parents and grandparents i'm really interested in, It's going to be hard finding any info from ireland as it will involve me having to travel there, but if the Suttons hailed from Essex then i should be able to find them in the censuses as long as i can get as much info about Robert and Elizabeth Sutton (your grandparents) as i can. Eugene is trying to trace the family as well i think, we have been in touch with him, but we haven't been able to get very far, so any info you have regarding your dad, mom or grandparents would all add to the info we need to trace them in the censuses. Did your father go back to England? my dad remembers him going to MAnchester and didn't know if he stayed there. Sorry for all the questions, I've just been eager to find anything about them for ages. Yours with thanks. John Sutton. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My grandfather (john Charles Sutton)was born around 1914 he did have a brother called Robert Edward Sutton and they did come from the Essex area we think, Their fathers name was also Robert Edward Sutton and i think their mothers name was Elizabeth Anne Stuart?. they had two sisters as well: Florence and Maureen. Does any of this seem familiar? John Charles Sutton married a Mary Anne Williams and had many children (10 i think) If any of this seems to link up with you it would be fantastic if we could share notes and see if we match up. thanks for getting in touch.
