    1. [NIR-TYRONE] Bowles Marriage Northern Ireland
    2. Theresa Forsyth
    3. Hi I found one record for a marriage of Robert Bowles but unfortunately not to a Costello. Here's the record: Robert Alexander Bowles to Annie Rebecca Armstrong on 4 May 1896 in St Luke Lower Falls Church of Ireland, Shankill Parish Belfast. It's about the right time frame. Regards Theresa

Their marriage would have been before 1897 as my Grandmother Elizabeth bowles was born June 1 1897, that is the year my Uncle seems to think it is. I dont know the first name of Robert's wife, and the spelling of Bowles might not be accurate. But im desperately trying to find this part of the family, and any help with either a record of birth for my Grandma or marriage date for her parents with correct spelling would so much appreciated. Ive been at a loss on this for years now. Thank you Sharon Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.tyr.general/6725/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Have been trying to find information on Margaret Cowan born around 1840. Presume she was a spinster and in some way related to Catherine Mac Dougall as she travelled with her to South Africa in 1906. When Catherine Mac Dougall married James Johnston in 1908 their daughter was named Kathleen Margaret Cowan Johnston - making me feel that Mararet Cowan must have been an Aunt. Would welcome any information as I know absolutely nothing about her other than the above information. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My Grandfather was a Jack Fullerton but people tell me Jack is a short form for John. His family was from around Moyroe, Bogbane, and Killyman. Ive heard a story that Jack might have been married before, but I dont know that for sure. But I do know his parents names so if you do find out by getting the marriage record, we might be connected. I think her "husband to be" James Johnston moved from Ireland to Scotland (Glasgow) prior to sailing to South Africa. Once they moved to South Africa they stayed there and are all buried in Boksburg. In Catherine's birthday book there is a "J" Mac Dougall (could have been a brother) with an address given in Christchurch New Zealand. I also think her mothers name was Margaret but don't know what her fathers name was. I'm really doing a lot of guessing!! Through the local Family History Center I was able to get a copy of the church record for their marriage a few years ago. They were married in the Parish Church, Parish of Drumglass. What I am looking for is a way to find dates of birth ( baptism ) for their children who, according to the U.S Census for 1870&1880, were born in Ireland. I have no information on them from the time of their marriage (Aug. 1854) until 1861 when Richard enlists in the Union Army here in the States. I have tried to get info from PRONI on other matters--but they have not been able to help in those requests. Do you think it's worth trying them for this? Thank You again for your help. I have a John Rafferty(b abt 1794) married a Mary McGilley in 1833, Killeeshill Parish, County Tyrone, at the Catholic Church in Tullyallen. Author: gjohnston33 Surnames: Johnston, Donnelly Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.tyr.general/6721/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Its a longshot. Trying to find any connections for Alexander Johnston who married Mary Donnelly in Tyrone Ireland. According to their son Francis (Born 1863 in Glasgow) birth record they were married in 1852 in Dungannon, Tyrone. Francis appears to be an only child. Mary died in 1885 age 45 in Glasgow. It appears Alexander died (or left?) earlier as she is listed as a widow in the 1871 census. Given Mary's reported age an 1852 marriage seems unlikely and I have not been able to find any records of it. Trying to find if anyone has a family with Alexander and Mary in this time frame. Also any suggestions welcome. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [NIR-TYRONE] McCosker and McCusker of Agharonan, County Tyrone
    2. jj.carroll
    3. I have tried to nail down the information on Patrick McCosker of Agharonan (1860) but I am having difficulty in locating the farm at that time. I know that it was Samuel Vesey property (of Derrybard House in Seskinore) but not where the property was on the Griffith's Valuation. I understand that the numbers in the valuation were only the sequential listing of the occupiers and not the address of that occupier. So, it does not compute that once you have the number of the property you can follow it looking at the land records. You actually have to have the locus of the property as shown on the map at the time. The problem is that http://griffiths.askaboutireland.ie/gv4/gv_family_search_form.php does not have the original material on Patrick McCosker's property, only a reference that is transcribed. Without that what does it mean when you have Sheet 51 (which I do know, having the whole sheet) and then the "position" and/or "map reference?" I have three numbers: 34 (which I believe may be the property in question), 39 (which does not appear on the Griffith's map that appears on Ask about Ireland) and 7. Until recently, I thought that the numbers related to the addresses and not the order that the census taker (or whatever he was at the time) listed the occupiers. That really caused me a lot of problems tracking down my McCarroll's of Corkhill but learning of the meaning of the order of numbers clarified the situation. But it did nothing to bring back the old homestead which I was present for its tearing down. Regards, Jim Carroll

    1. [NIR-TYRONE] Major UPGRADE - Townland maps on Ask About Ireland
    2. Barry Graham
    3. Hi Listers, http://griffiths.askaboutireland.ie/gv4/gv_family_search_form.php I have just discovered that the 1850's Maps in the Griffiths Evaluation are now overlaid onto the Google map base with a transparency slider. Search any location - click on 1850's map then zoom right out. Almost all of Tyrone is now covered with the townland maps - there are a few gaps. Use the transparency slider to view the underlying Google Map. Zoom in on your area of interest and use the slider to reveal the Townland overlay (after a minute or so). Keep zooming to get the full details of occupation. Brilliant!! ---------------------- Barry Graham Melbourne, Australia
