My great grandfather John Joseph Johnston was born in strabane workhouse on the 24th oct 1905. A person by the name of R J Craig registered the birth on the 1st November 1905. His mothers name was Rose ann Johnston (Nee Davis)who lived in the workhouse. His fathers name was John Johnston, he lived at whiteabbey and was a heckler. My grandmother told me that when my great grandfather was about 15 years old when he boarded a ship for england. This is all we know about the Johnston side of our family due to my great grandfather passing away in dunkirk when my grandmother was a child. Hi Frank: I don't know if we have a connection. I have an earlier Alice Campbell, who was married to Patrick Quinn & the mother of my ancestor, Sarah Quinn b. Co. Tyrone abt 1828. She married Patrick Devlin 9 September 1850 in the Clonoe RC church & they came out to Australia on the "Beejapore" in 1863. On the same ship were her relatives - William Campbell 34, his wife Ann & children, John & Thomas. There was also a Thomas Campbell 26 & there may have been others on the passenger list but I don't have the whole list.
