Hi All! I took a break from the computer today (since its getting close to Christmas and I've done nothing except my research for weeks and I need to clear my head) When I got home I decided to follow up on some of the leads that you all were so helpful in getting me. The first thing I did was call the only "Creepy brother from the creepy family." This is what he said to me. "Why don't you just go outside and get some fresh air or do some Christmas shopping and forget all this nonsense" Well, I replied "Jack, you know who your parents were. You knew your brothers and sisters. Tom only knows Steve and he's never had any one to fill in the blanks for him." He got quiet and said "I don't know anything" I said "You were 10 or 11 when Tom came to live with you, surely you remember something! He said, "my mom babysat him every day, then one day, he just stayed and she never came to pick him up" I asked "Where did she meet your family?" and he said "My mother used to go to the corner bar and she met her there" He said "Maybe mom had a picture of her somewhere" Maybe when I get time, I can go through mom's old things" That was the extent of our conversation. Then I got the nerve to try the Joan R. Latty in Oregon (that was suggested from this board) and I called her up and her daughter answered. She was extremely nice and told me that her mother's name is Joan Roberts Latty. She said that they are Native American and that their name has been spelled Latty for several hundred years. She gave me her aunt's phone number and said she has done genealogy for a long time (and for their family) and to try her and see if she knows of any other Joan Latty's in the family. I struck out this time, but now am going to try the one in Santa Clara next. Again, thank you for all your support, wonderful comments and help! You all are angels.
