This McCarten family originated in No Ireland per the 1930 census. I can't find an obit or passenger record on John Sr. Does anyone know where in No Ire this McCarten family was from? Northwest Hwy., Palatine. A 10 a.m. Mass will follow the prayers at St. Thomas of Villanova Church, at Anderson and Williams Dr., Palatine. Born Dec. 21, 1908, in Chicago, he died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998, at his home. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Hillside. Mr. McCarten retired from the Chicago Fire Department as a lieutenant. He had served from Feb. 19, 1940 to Dec. 21, 1971. He was the husband of the late Rose; father of John H. Jr., Bill, Jim and Jerry (Barbara Jablonski) McCarten, Rosemary (the late Jerry) Fulgonzi, Betty (Dick) Blank and Peggy (Jack) Taylor; grandfather of 13; and great-grandfather of three. Father was an automobile mechanic. Both Parents born Ireland. In 1920 they resided at 710 Kenneth Ave in the 35th Ward (ED 2245) That census gives John Sr age as 35, emigrated 1902, and Elizabeth's age as 44, emigrated 1894. In 1930 they were still at the 710 So Kenneth Address. John Sr was a motorman and John Jr age 20 was an inspector for Western Electric. Elizabeth was born in NI. They were married about 20yrs. John's Sr's WWI draft registration gives date of birth: Nov 18, 1883 John Jr's wife was Rose Anne Condon and she died in May of 1975, her funeral Mass was at St Francis Borgia Church, she is also buried at Mt Carmel.
