Hance was a common form of Hans which became popular after the Battle of the Boyne. Hansey was the diminutive form and sometimes spelled Hancey. Hans and Hance sound the same when spoken. I have an Irish uncle Hansey, named after a late 18th.C ancestor, Hans Gray. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sharon Oddie Brown" <s.brown@dccnet.com> To: <nir-down@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, December 04, 2007 3:49 PM Subject: Re: [NIR-DOWN] Capt Hance Hamilton of 1729 > Are you sure it is Capt "Hance" Hamilton?
