He moved to the north of England where he married Margaret Jane Devlin in 1888. So far, we have this: In Ireland: Bernard McGuinness m Rose ?? Felix b 1853 John b 1857 Annie b 1864 Mary b 1869 all born in Down. From England: John McGuinness m Margaret Jane Devlin Thomas 1890 Daniel 1891 Bernard 1893 Rosa 1897 John 1899 All born in Cumberland and Blaydon on Tyne, Durham. Daniel was my Grandfather, and he used to visit relatives in Co Down but the connection was lost when he died. I think was known as a member of the Knights of St Columbus. Thanks for any connections you can give me - especially living relatives. 3. Thanks to everyone for this info: I have some more information, but not much, about Bernard and Rose. Bernard was a linen weaver (as recorded on the wedding cert. of John) and had died, probably in Ireland, before 1888. Rose was born in 1831 and died in England. I am afraid I really don't know where they came from, other than that it was definitely Co Down. Since John married a Devlin from Newry it is possible that the families knew each other before they travelled but that is pure conjecture. Can someone tell me a little more about the sources you have quoted? The Griffiths valuation is described as being taken over a number of years. Is it possible to tell when a certain record was made, and also what was the basis for making a record, property ownership? tax liability? Would a working man like a linen weaver with possibly no assets have been recorded? The family was catholic, so if I wanted to follow up one of these leads you have given me, is it possible to access catholic BMD records online, or even in person? Thanks, Peter Peter J Meaney wrote: > Hi Peter > There is a Bernard McGuinness in Burrenreagh Kilcoo CP according to > Griffiths Valuation see > http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/down/kilcoo.htm > > Pete > > > > > -----Original Message----- > From: nir-down-bounces@rootsweb.com > [mailto:nir-down-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of Sean McCartan > Sent: 28 December 2007 10:56 > To: nir-down@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [NIR-DOWN] McGuinness search > > > In April 1847 a Bernard Magennis applied for house and land from the Meade > Estate.
