    3. Just to add to Bev's response........ The British Isles Vital Record Index Cd's from LDS turned up an interesting result. Entering Hassan, I put in the "h" Cd only to be told to put in the "a" surname Cd and low and behold there were the Hassan surnames and variants for births. As you will note 1865 is the starting point for the records and include one in Dublin and a couple in Donegal, but as Bev states it appears that Londonderry is probably one of few that has been transcribed as yet, but it does show that perhaps there are records in the wrong/or alternative spellings that were files phonetically perhaps with silent "h". The surnames are Hassan, Hasson, Hassin and Aussin, Ausen. Who knows why they are all under "a". and not "h".
