Ray, I have Stevensons! Same name pattern. We descend from John Stevenson and Mary Rankin, married 1776 in Donaghadee, Co Down. One family letter says that they lived in Castlereagh, Belfast. (Greater Belfast straddles Down and Antrim, although it is 'in' Co Antrim) Family moved from there to Ballymena area of Co Antrim, which is a relatively short distance by Canadian standards. Four sons of John: Robert, William Clatworthy, Philip and John all emigrated to Canada. I have all of ours and most of the other descendents. We married into Bell families in Canada, but can't recall doing so in Ireland. Family names were Sloan, Clark(e), Russell. Occupations were tailor, haberdasher, farmer. Hi Wendy, Thank-you for your reply. Now we have to connect the 2 Ontario,Canada Stevenson lines together. My James and Ann(e ) Stevenson family is on the 1851 census for Percy Twp.,living on Con 13,Lot 12. Their daughter Jane married Robert Clark in 1854 and in 1891 they are enumerated on page 25 of division 1 of Belmont Township,according to the 1901 census for Belmont Twp. Jane came to Canada in 1847 and lists her birth date as June 20,1827 and she was born in Ireland. I hope we can find the connection as I cannot seem to get anywhere without knowing where in Co.Down they came from. I am sure the answers are somewhere in Ontario,Canada Wendy we corresponded back on Nov. 26,2006.Other names this Stevenson family marries into in Ontario are to the families of Free,Clark,Beadle,Brooks and Graham.
